National Weekend - Saturday 28th June

The Great Griffin
Entries for the Great Griffin Run started to assemble from 12.00noon on the Saturday and they got underway at 1.00pm in glorious sunny weather, setting off and finishing at The Cock pub in the village of Broom.
The nearby Shuttleworth Collection airfield was hosting a vintage flying display later in the evening and we were greeted by some wonderful old aircraft overhead going through their paces.
On the ground there was a display of vintage steam lorries and cars that were supplemented by many local classic cars that had come out in support, a great backcloth for the Griffin Run!
In all, eleven Gilberns took part over an approximate forty-mile course. There was a truly international flavour to the entry list containing three Swiss, one German, one Belgian navigator,
two Welsh and five English drivers.
The run was keenly contested in true Eddie Waring 'It's a Knockout'('Jeux Sans Frontieres' for the Europeans) style and the outcome was extremely close with Howard Wadsworth eventually winning,
reigning champion Simon Porter settling for second this time and Heiner Geering finishing third.
Well done to them, to Richard Adams and Jez Jones for setting such an enjoyable course and the rest of the entrants for taking part without getting lost!
There was great support from other members awaiting the returning drivers and the early evening developed into a social event as a taster for the meal scheduled later in the evening at the Stratton House Hotel in Biggleswade.
