National Weekend - Sunday 29th June
National Day
An early breakfast for the organising team and committee members saw us arrive at Shuttleworth at nine o'clock.
The three separate marquees gave dedicated space for, spares operation, archive display and regalia stand allowing visitors much more space to circulate and view what was on offer.
Running up to the event, muc work had been put into encouraging GT owners to bring their cars along, as this was the model that started the Gilbern story.
In all twenty four came along with several on trailers mid way through restoration macking for a fantastic display as they were parked in a dedicated area.
I have never seen so many GTs in one place in all my time in the club - fantastic!
There are two undeveloped prototype models written into Gilbern folklore, namely the MK4 Invader and the rear engined T11 that for years have been passed from owner to owner with little to no hope of being completed but no more.
Gordon Johnston's epic journey with the T11 has seen a bodyshell / rolling chassis with no doors, glass or pretty much anything else transformed into a road going car with an MOT and registered with the DVLA.
The superb sleek dart like car in period Daytona yellow shows where Trevor Fiore was going with his radical design for Gilbern.
Frank Robinson trailered the MK4 Invader to Shuttleworth, and whilst it is still work in progress, it is clear that work is under way and the journey has been commenced.
We look forward to seeing them both take centre stage at a National Day in the near future as finished articles, something that Gilbern was unable to achieve.
