Hi looking through your site I came across your pictures of Lavenham and a Mr Casey. I knew an Alan Casey, Gilbern owner who lived in Lavenham... Bruce must surely be a relation, would he be willing to contact me?

I am pleased to be able to say that the club have acquired the material from Jim Richardson, which will form an important part of the club's archive. My thanks go out to Jim for thinking of the club and it's future.

I first saw the MGB engined GT in an Observers Book of the Automobile that I won at school around the 1960's! As I now have the yearning for something "interesting" before I get too far gone, the Gilbern's came to my mind as fibreglass bodied cars with that extra something. My storage space is limited and steel tends to disappear if cars live out! I know that GRP has its' own problems but perhaps slightly less daunting. Does anyone ever sell their GT, as that is the one I realy covet?

J.M.Richardson in England at 10:18:42 Monday November 5 2007
I was agent for Gilbern Cars Trading as Richardson & Co(Gilbern Sales).White Gates.West Street.Leven.Nr Beverley,East Yorks.I covered an area Norfolk to Scottish Boarders and any where in between. Having recently moved I have come across files containing original brochures on Genie, Invader Mk1. Estate and Mk.111 Also much other material, photos advertising posters. Any member living nearby who can collect and pass on to your archivist would be welcome because it is quite heavy and bulky to send through the post.

About twenty five years ago,my husband nearly bought a Gilbern Invader estate it was £1,000.and the insurance would have been £1,068.as he had just started work and his finances couldn`t strech that far,so he bought an Escort 1300E for £300.Ten years later he bought a Jensen Interceptor 111 which we still have today.Myself i`ve always wanted a morris 1000 traveller,until he took me to see a Gilbern Genie which was for sale, as soon as I saw her, I was hooked. We`ll be picking her up on the weekend; So from now on,he will be cooking the tea because i`ll be up the garage;

Don Wilkinson in W Yorkshire at 16:43:45 Thursday October 11 2007
I had one of the few Gibern Invader estates, around 27 year's ago.It went like "shit off a shovel".I went to the factory when they had the receivers in and tried to get one of my associates interested in buying it (he is a Welshman)to no avail.

Bill Phelps in UK at 08:42:45 Wednesday October 10 2007
Nice site. I owned a 1964 GT1800 for 7 years back in the late 60's and early 70's, what a super car. I spent quite a few hours at the factory back in those days as I lived only 5 miles away. I only sold the car because the rear seats were getting too small for our two growing kids. Still have photos of the car, if anyone is interested. I understand that it has long gone to the great scrapyard in the sky. Which is a shame. Good luck to the club.

Good website that is siple to navigate and is well laid out. I have been a Gilburn fan since the 60's. At present I have a JZR three wheeler I am thinking of selling or swaping for a PVT and the Gilbern springs to mind although I shall have to check on the dimensions as we have a very narrow drive betwwen 2 posts that are 6' wide. Nice website, takes me back to my youth! Owned Invader Mk 2 SHK 68K from 1981 to 1990, does it still exist? Spent thousands on it with Martinac Engineering with the intention of tracking it, only ever did this once at Goodwood. Funnily enough, doing the same thing now, only with Alfa Romeo's. Simon Stamp

Peter Goddard in Gloucestershire at 13:13:31 Wednesday July 18 2007
I was reminded of the Gilbern car by my wife- it was one of the cars featured in a Daily Mail crossword this week. Peter Cottrell was a valued customer of ours when we kept The Fleet Inn, Twyning, Tewkesbury, between 1994 and 2001. Sadly we lost touch and I wonder if Peter is still alive and well? If so can anyone put me back in touch with him? Do any club members have a photograph of Peter which they could kindly email to me? Peter was a great guy. It was always a real pleasure to serve him. Sincere thanks. 17.07.07

Great site, not much info around on Gilburn. Took me a while to find this site. The reason for looking, My father sold an Invader Mk 3 when we were living in Bushey, Hertfordshire about 10yrs ago. I always wondered what happened to it. It was orange in colour and needed restoration, of what I remember the car was in ok condition, I believe it was one of the last Mk3's. If anyone has any info let me know. I hope it was restored and is still running! richardwheatley@hotmail.com
(Club records show the car as Mk3 chassis M30185, reg. SNX203M but has not been heard of since 1997 so we would also like any news of this car Ed.)

Hallo Of course I knew about Gilbern before I saw this side. I almost bought one ca 1975. It was för sale in Gothenburg then. I don´t remember what year it was made, but I do remember the colour; it was brown. Instead of buying the Gilbern, I bought a Marcos, which I still own. For the last time I have been thinking of buying a Gilbern, or maybe a Scimitar. Have a good time, and keep up your work with the nice Gilbern-cars KlasA

I am thinking of buying a Genie for conversion to Classic rallying. Has anyone any experience of so using one? Can the weak front suspension be easily strengthened? Can i buy a roll cage? Has anyone got a Genie in need of work for sale? Thanks, Roy
(Referring to weak suspension is a little missing leading, since the only shortcoming is the use of MGB lever dampers with their resultant lack of tuneablity. Any 'weakness' such as it is, results from stress cracking to the engine cradle section of the chassis, but while perhaps this is less obvious than rot in other parts of the chassis, both are to be expected in a 30+ year old space-frame. Many cars will have been restored and/or modified, the caveat is to check what you are buying. As it stands, for competition it may be beneficial to knowingly buy a rotten one and thoroughly restore it - The club may know of such project cars and, can provide prefabricated repair sections (even I believe still has a new replacement chassis in stock) contact roger.frankland@gilbernoc.co.uk
In addition the GOC is currently compiling an archive (PDF) DVD that will included all the wisdom on chassis repair & modification, roll-cages, suspension upgrades and many other aspects of Gilberns, that have appeared in it's publications since 1969 - to be available latter this year. Ed.)

Allen Bachelder in United States at 14:15:24 Thursday June 7 2007
I have a 3-main MGB 1800 engine and overdrive transmission that I bought in Virginia, USA several years ago. The owner told me these came from a Gilbern. For reasons I cannot recall, the car no longer exists. That was the first time I had heard of the Gilbern, and very few of the British car enthusiasts I've met know about this car. The transmission is now rebuild and will go in the '65 MGB I am currently restoring. Best regards, Allen Bachelder

Glad to see that some of the non-car related items are getting onto the visitors book again, I was forced into the local chemist after the other products failed to appear and have now been banned from going back in after asking for new supplies, not sure whether it was asking for the product or showing her what the problem was, has anyone else suffered the same indignity?

What's happening to all our Gilberns? I've seen 4 go to overseas buyers on E bay in one week! 3 to Germany and 1 to Italy. Is there no way we can try to keep them here. Two MkII Invaders went as a pair for £225. If I wasn't in the middle of an extension and bleeding money to the builders, I'd have snapped them up. I already own a MkII Invader. Kind Regards, Wayne.

Worked for Gilbern cars from 1968-1970, during this period I worked on the Genie Invader, Invader Estate also the Project 2 Seater. Brought a Gilbern Genie LKG16F in 1978 and had this car for about 8 years. It was one of six built with the healey 3000 rear axel and the only one ever built with knock on mag alloy mini lites. Finally it caught fire when the petrol feed pipe that was part of the carburettor body came away and sprayed the engine bay and caught fire. I managed to put out the fire but had extensive damage to the electrical and ignition under bonnet. Later I found out that the car had been restored, dont know who has it or where it is. The Westlake that was built for Roger Collins to race, acctually went out to be raced at Paul Rickards, then was used as the company run about, which was alot of fun as it would not tick over under 3000 rpm, and the only way to drive it was to drop the clutch at about 5000, which was very interesting when taking the secretary to the bank to collect the wages as it took off with masses of wheel spin and clouds of smoke. The 2 seater project was first a cut down genie by four inches, with an Austin Maxi engine and gearbox with a stage 2 conversion mounted where the back seats should of been. Anyone with the whereabouts of LKG16F please contact me.

Hi everyone its nice to see that Gilbern Cars are still going, some of you may remember me, some have probably forgotten me and others don't know me, Just a small intro, I worked at Gilberns'from 1966 to 1971 where I served my time as an apprentice motor mechanic, but I just didn't learn the mechanics I had to learn everything there was to know about Gilberns because I was one of the few guys who repaired the near write offs. In 1971 at the end of my apprentiship Alan Jones Gilberns' ex works manager invited me to work for him, which I did for 1 year repairing and servicing Gilberns. They were good times.

"The Gilbern Owners Club is well aware of the damaged Invader Mk III at Simmonds Salvage Yard, York.
The club were involved in quoting for the repairs required initially, but the insurance company decided that it was an uneconomical repair, despite having a high agreed
value. The club also bid for the car for repair/salvage to a level which was thought to be reasonable for the cars condition. The sale price now is three times that figure and nearly twice that we were to bid as agent for a member. The comments of a 'light' side/front impact is an understatement, it seems to have hit a wall on full lock!! The front nearside alloy wheel is in pieces in the boot I am informed, and there is considerable damage underneath in the suspension area, maybe also including the chassis ( although this will not be established until the front suspension subframe is removed!). Please take care."

Gilbern Literature: I have available (loft clear-out) a number of original publicity items from 1968 in which you or your members might be interested. They are: A5-ish 3 page brochure Gilbern Genie -"The World's Most Exclusive Grand Tourer" October 1968 Price List for Genie & PI 130 A4 double-sided Road Test by John Bolster reprinted from Autosport 23.8.68 on thick paper for Gilbern publicity material A4-ish photo of Genie in kit form A4 single-sided glossy leaflet for Gilbern Invader - photos, specs & prices I have been offered "around £25" (unseen...) by a collector who is coming to view them on Wednesday, but as the owner of an "alternative" car (Dutton) myself,
I know they will mean more to an owner than a brochure collector, and would be happy to sell them for a similar price.
These are originals, not reprints, in good condition for their age (the odd crease here & there -very minor)

Mk III for sale. Just over a year ago, I posted a message on this site reporting the loss of my Mk III Invader which had been remove> d from the site where I viewed it prior to my picking it up. I'm happy to report that I have, with a members assistance, recovered the vehicle and it is now back in my workshop. The bad news is that it has deteriorated quite a bit since I last saw it & she is now in need of a total rebuild. Sadly, because of other projects and a lack of time, I have to let her go. If anyone is interested, please contact me for further details but please be aware, this is a big project. However, like all Gilberns, she's far to nice to scrap. I am submiting this email for all the wrong reasons. Last week I attended the Woodvale Rally in Southport. This is a major Northwest event but attracts classic car clubs from all over the country, which was very evident with hundreds of cars on show from A to Z. I turned up as a spectator in my Mk3 FWW 341L the red one on this site. I was stopped immediately and asked what I was driving. When I parked up the same. When I came back there were notes under my wipers asking questions about the car. 2 people wanting to buy it and then a steward came over and asked me "were's the rest of your club"? It was quite sad to spend a whole day at a major event and not see one single Gilbern of any type, especially as enthusiasts attending were looking for them. Anyone got any answers?

The rump of the Gilbern assets were taken over from the liquidator, by a "shelf" company called Cliffmain Motors Limited in 1975 which traded under the name of Spencer Newman Glasson, headed by an entrepreneur called Larry Spencer-Hicks and in which the principal investors were a retired businessman and a Birmingham publican. The sale did not include the freehold of the factory at Llantwit Farde near Pontypridd, which was owned by a Midlands property company called Marlbrooker Securities controlled by a Mr. Peters. SNG very soon got into financial difficulties and was acquired for a nominal £1 by the Burgess Group of Companies in Cardiff, of which I was then Managing Director. The work-force who had not been paid for several months had staged a sit-in, had formed a workers' cooperative and hoped to take over the business for themselves. (It should be remembered that this was around the time of the troubles at Norton Villers Triumph which had led to the formation of the Meriden Motorcycle Cooperative). When I took control, the first thing I discover I. So, any help?? I need as much info, buying advice, etc as I can get. Also, I'd actually like to see one in the flesh!!!!!! Can anyone help? All donations gratefully received. Andy Mynett.

Thread taken from the pistonheads forum pages, The Practical Classics own Granada stolen, keep your eyes open for it all you keen eyed Gilbern owners, and classic car enthusiasts alike... 'Practical Classics' Roman Bronze Ford Granada Mk1 Ghia (HEU 932N - think The Sweeney) was stolen in Ringwood, Hampshire last night (May 20) between 9pm and 10.30pm. The car had been at Beaulieu Spring Autojumble on the magazine's stand during the day. Please keep your eyes peeled for her. The car's in top-class nick and it's such a shame that thieving idiots have got their hands on her.

While catching up on some paperwork in the office in Kelso market square I herd that lovely note of what could only be a Gilbern! Straight out from behind the desk and to the window I could then see that my hearing was not deceiving me and I was absolutely correct, not just one but two! The two gentlemen one from Edinburgh and the other from Durham were real enthusiasts and I enjoyed their banter. A neighbour used to have a Green one Reg No TEY 622L which I think is now down in Essex.

Just bumped into a chap called Phil (who I understand designed this site) in Leominster. I drive one of only 2 Citroen AX Cabriolets in the UK, and I thought I heard a Panzer Tank being started.. A good chat later, Phil was kind enopugh to take me around the block. On my return, and after I'd managed to prize the 'ear-to-ear grin' off my face so i could speak, I thanked Phil and decided that someday I'd have one of these!!! Presently I've just moved in to Herefordshire from Greater Manchester (Bolton) and am working towards completing my Private Pilot's Licence. I have some connection with Wales in that my family holidayed there evety year, I've lived there (SW Wales) for a couple of 6 months stints, and last year joined with some friends from the Baptist Church in Skewen on a 2wk mission to Croatia. I was thrilled to learn that WALES had their own car - and what a beauty! Keep going strong - and save one for me!
Philip Ivimey (Phil) was presumable road testing the triple choke downdraught Weber setup on his racing Genie, admittedly it's exhaust is distinctively throaty, but certainly not to be confused with a 250 HP Maybach diesel. Phil is the Clubs Racing Secretary and historian providing much of the history and racing content for the site, although he did not design it

I owned a Gilbern Genie, bright lime green / yellow colour which I sold around 30 years ago (to a dealer in Neasden, London) when I moved to France. I think it was number 109 or perhaps 119 but I can't remember the registration number. I'd love to know if it's still around. Oh yes, one other possible identifier - a faint pink tinge to the black carpet in the boot due to an emergency stop with a five gallon can of emulsion paint in the back! If anyone knows what happened to it I'd love to hear from them.

Hi, In the early 60's I lived and worked in Bridgend and was a founder member of Bridgend Automobile Club. One of our early members was Peter Cottrel, Peter had a small garage and tuning business in Pencoed and was responsible for most of the development work on the early Gilberns. I read your History section and would like to add a little further information. In 1963/4 Gilbern built a GT with the Ford Cortina GT 1500 engine and gearbox, but with the normal BMC suspension and running gear. I owned the car for a while in the early 1990's and sold it to a local Welsh classic rally competetor who later commited suicide(no connection) In view of the development route later taken by Gilbern this car should not be forgotten.

I am contacting the club on behalf of my elderly neighbour who has a Gilburn Invader mark 3 that he would like to sell. I think it was a car he drove in the 70's and has been mothballed since then, with various jobs that need to be done to get it back on the road. His long term plans were to do it himself, but I think time has got the better of him! It is a three litre engine, beyond that my knowledge is woefully inadequate, so I suggest anyone interested should phone him for a chat etc. His Name is Dougie Teare, and his number is: 07966 868243, or house phone, 0151 280 7782.

I was looking at an old photo of a 1997 Genie that I used to own over 10 years ago and decided I would check the internet to see if there was any ifo on Gilberns and sure enough I found your web site. When I owned the car the internet did't even exist! I owned my car in England and shipped it to the States when I moved here in 1980, I kept it for a few years and sold in around 1993. I was surprised to see that the car shown in the "Around the World" section of your web site is actually my old car (license plate KUB 73 E). Does anyone know it's current where abouts?, I would be glad to share some of the history on the car if the current owner is interested.

There's a very good road test on the Gilbern Invader Mk 111 comparing it with the MGCGT in the December 1st edition of Classic Car Weekly. In it Richard Gunn says of the Gilbern.... apart from being better-looking and more distinctive, the Gilbern also handles better, sounds better and , i'd probably guess, is cheaper to look after because of less rust and more ford. He also goes on to say that after comparing the cars it is actually the Gilbern that emerges as his favourite. It is the one that he wants..... I say get yours now (if you can)and join the club!
Andy Thomas in India at 15:53:03 Tuesday December 6 2005
Curiosity took me to the World page on the web site and saw my GT chassis number in India. I am currently living in India while on a work contract but fortunately my GT is safely locked up in the UK. The roads are terribly maintained and congested in Delhi and the road users mostly lacking in skills or manners, I don't think such a classic would survive long. My work-a-day Ford is currently in the workshop for the 6th time in 15 months for major crash repairs, this time it was seriously damaged by two rampaging bulls! There are some classics here, mainly old British and a few American cars, but they are only seen at special events.

(Just goes to show you can't beleive all you read in a database, the entry will corrected. Thanks also for your illuminating report of conditions on the sub-continent. Paul)

It's finally time to sell my red mk2 Invader estate (DAY 324K) after she has been sitting around with very little use for around 2 years. Very nice example. Fully restored in 1990 and still in excellent condition. Complete engine reconditioning about 500 miles ago. Nearly new Spax all round. Email me for pictures. Or call 07967 859 190 for a chat.

I am now 39years old, but when I was about 20 i used to own a Gilbern GT,which I loved.Unfortunatley I was not very mechanically minded and spiralling maintenance costs forced me to sell the car. Since that day I have not seen one Gilbern car on the road . Feeling very nostalgic one day last week I looked up Gilbern on the internet and came across your Web pages, and to my surprise there was my old car on your History page, still looking like what I used to think was the old James Bond DB7. Registration NLG 939C.Can you tell me anything about its present owner /wereabouts or if indeed it is still on the road as it has been nearly twenty years. Many thanks Neil Halliwell

Having worked at Gilbern's for 5 years as an apprentice motor mechanic (there were only 2 of us, myself and Jim Atkins) and then for A H Jones for 1 year as a qualified mechanic, I must say that visiting this site has brought back many memories, some very good write ups and super pictures. This is a great site and a compliment to Wales, good luck and hello to anyone that remembers me, Brandon

I own Gilbern Genie 1014 which has been off the road for nearly three years due to need for new chassis. It is of no use to me now. The body is in good shape, it has a new Weber carburator, refurbished radiator, much good interior detail. If I could get any monetary return on it I would be grateful. Didn't know where else to post this and keep meaning to write in to the magazine....Cheers and thanks.

I understand that the club are to produce enamel lapel badges, what great news! What with the mugs and other collectables available from the GOC, is there need for anyone to log onto that internet auction site? If the quality of the badges is as good as everything else, can I put my name down for a dozen please, as they are certain to be collectors items practically immediately!

Great Website !! Have been a Gilbern fan for years, and have enjoyed your owners club display at the NEC classic car show . I worked in the mid thru late 70's for the former East Coast USA importer. British Auto Services, Rockville Maryland, (Washington DC). Mr. Harold Oaks. He imported MGB powered GT's in I believe 65,66,67. I do recall reading some interesting letters, and replies, he had with the factory, over tech., and warranty issues, that were on file there at the time. I enjoyed working there, as the only "Yank" in the place. We were a full line Britsh Leyland, and TVR dealer at the time. Mr. Oaks was a fine gentleman, and I was told by Bob Tullis last year that he was still alive, although very old. Again, enjoyed your website, and hope to see you at a future NEC show. Sincerely, Craig Wagner USA

Looking for the help of members & other interested parties in tracing whereabouts of MkIII Invader GUO 174N. This car was bought by me some 2 years ago & I left it lying on the site where I viewed it whilst waiting for workshop space to become available. Unfortunatly, this took longer than intended & in the interim, the person who owned the land just to the north of Aberdeen gave the car away without my permission &, strangly, doesn't know who he gave it to but believes it was someone on the East Coast of Scotland. All my enquiries through local car clubs have led nowhere & I'm reluctant to get the police involved as I don't believe there was any criminal intent. However, I WOULD like the car back and any information regarding its whereabouts would be most graitfully received. Thank you.

Stumbled across your national day on Sunday at Shuttleworth, nice to see so many of these cars. I nearly bought one years ago, and always like "different" cars. Good to see, keep up the support. I am sure that 3-4 years ago I saw a new Invader bodyshell on the RAF Henlow airbase, still in bare white fibreglass. It was parked in a parking area in side the base where there were some caravans stored . This would not be visible from the road, and I only went there once, and glimpsed it whilst driving round the site. It may be worthy of follow up, or someone in goc may be the owner already. Keep up the good work.

For anyone interested the follow is listed on ebay bids starting at .99p: This is a very rare 2.5 Consul bell housing mated to a five speed 2.8 injection Capri gearbox. This setup is an ideal way to convert from a four speed or four speed and overdrive to a less cumbersome five speed box.

Paul- thank you for your comments- i got this snippet of information from visiting the Bromley,Kent classic car show in approx. 1990. There was a convertible Genie for sale- the owner told me it was one of approx. 5 factory convertibles which were one-off customer requirements. Sorry i can't be any more specific than that- i don't recall the gentleman's name. The car looked superb and was for sale for #5,500. It would surely have been a sales hit as a productionised model. With the club offering new bodyshells this could be an interesting variant...

excellent website with in depth history and good pictures. I am intrigued that there is no mention of after- market convertibles- i have seen two with my own eyes ! Apparently approximately 5 factory built convertibles were made in response to one-off requests by customers (as well as after-market chopped versions. Do these survive ? A fascinating if obscure part of Gilbern history.

Marcus you make a good point, and we will be sure to include a section for members modified cars in the next revision that will naturally include convertibles. There are probably four member converted examples in existence, but to my knowledge there were no factory converted cars. This is not to say there were none as customer specials were often accommodated but, as no proper factory records survive, so I would be very interested how you arrived at your figure. Paul Clark email links on this site.

Interesting site. Have been thinking about a Gilbern for some time. Can anybody give me some info. on the GibernOC weekend at Shuttleworth 11 & 12 June? I shall be back in the UK by then, and would like to try and attend. I live in Leeds but will be visiting my daughters down in Hertfordshire. [Know Shuttleworth, as I used to live in Biggleswade]. Any info. on Gilbern's for sale? I saw the estate advertised on e-bay, but whilst I am a keen car person and have worked on many cars, I think that was just a little too much work before it would be driveable.

Lapsed member now with car for sale. 1970 Genie. Ran well and used daily for 5 years. Lots of history. Interior good - restored recently. Unleaded conversion. Ferrari carb. Restored servo/breaks. Rear wings removed for chassis repairs. Ran out of enthusiasm. £750 ono 01278 641689. (Sorry for the cheeky attempt at cheap advertising)

Moving abroad so my second Invader Estate, 1972, needs a new home. Chassis Welded, seats recovered. Needs mechanics re-assembling, carpets (new carpet length included), roof lining (ford estate lining included that could be adapted), window seals (50 feet of mini profile included), brakes re-asembling, clutch freeing (new plate included), suspension re-bushing, small amount of body tidying, respray. Allegedly second to last estate built. Vario us parts and spares included including a scim wiring harness. Reg worth £600 (www.regtransfers.co.uk). Good solid car that is a realstic and starightforward project (my other Estate needs more work!) Offers around £800. Loads of pics available.

Have been considering getting a classic car for sometime now andmy father has recently expressed an intrest in sharing the cost of purchase and ownership with me. He is more interested in the small sporty M.G. or Triumph and I have always leant towards the Rover P5B or recently the Humber Hawk. Having viewed your site I was just wondering if the cost of owning a GT like the later Invaders is comparitve with the afore mentioned motors. If you have any views on this please feel free to email me.

Paul Yates at 13:20:47 Friday March 25 2005
Due to a complete breakdown in communication with the supplier, there is a brand new set of grey leather seat covers, front and back, available for a Mk2 saloon. No doubt could be adapted for a Genie, perhaps anyone interested would get in touch, either via e-mail or on 01707 372797(W) or 320151(H)

Dear members, I am considering running an Invader estate as a daily vehicle & will be looking at one soon. Whilst aware of the sourcing for the basic mecahnicals of the car I don't know much about where other parts were sourced from and what they would be common to so... Much appreciated would be any advice at all, but particularly in the following areas: 1: Are there any areas of chassis prone to rot that I should beware of, or any areas of the body that get stressed and weak? 2: Could anyone provide ball park figures for perishable components on the car (from suspension to brakes to window seals etc) as I imagine that I will need to replace the lot. And most importantly! 3: Are there any components which wear out with constant normal use which are hard to source now and therefore make the idea of daily use impractical? Thank you very much.

A barn discovery and subsequent purchase of another Invader in a moment of madness, prompts the sale of the last estate known to the club. Recommissioned after being laid up for some time, the estate has a 3.1 RS engine, new full leather interior, sun roof and never-used tow bar. Dark blue with black roof, please e-mail for more details or phone 01707 320151(H) or 372797(W)(Herts.)

I owned OHO 150 G which is shown in your gallery around 1969 1972. The car was a metalic blue when I bought it from John Dangerfield in Bristol. I had it resprayed in Prsche Tangerine. Whilst in my ownership the car spent a year in Gran Canario whilst I was working in Nigeria. I sold the caras we were leaving the country in a sailing boat and could not keep it. It was a super car and I still have very fond memories. At present I have a Triumph TR6 as I like open air motoring. What a pity Gilbern never made a soft top! Happy motoring. Ian Hannay

Tony Sharp in WALES at 09:34:53 Saturday December 11 2004
I OWNED AN 1800 FROM 1964 WITH REGISTRATION BBB3B. I RETAINED THE NUMBER AND I THINK THE NEW ALLOCATED NUMBER WAS 169 JUH. It was originally metallic green but after becoming a 'sandwich' which left the car with slightly flared rear wings, it was resprayed dark green. Is it still out there?

Hi I maintain a site on rare 2-door station wagons, http://www.shooting-brake.com. Among the cars I'm still missing is the Gilbern Invader MK II Estate. Anyone willing to provide pics? They would be very appreciated. Any other British specialties of the same kind are welcomed as well.

The all new Gilbern Owners Club "Road Test Book" is now well on its way, the pre-production prototype is on my desk and the real thing is only days away. Complete with many "never seen before" articles and adverts, this new book in the club colours and style should be a great improvement on the last compilation of road test reports. Orders are now being taken for this new addition to the regalia range, so please get in touch with how many are required. Umbrellas are now at the R&D stage, so your damp days may be over for good! (smaller umbrellas for use inside the car are also under consideration)

I've just been writing about driving a 4.5 Lagonda in the 60s that was based in Pontyclun, (where incidentally several others were at that time). I drove it to Church Village to meet a chap called Peter or Fred Cottrell who was going to do something clever to the car. I think we went to his garage in Pencoed where there was a lotus that was very flimsey and quick unlike the Lagonda. The reg was LOV 1 or NOV 1. The reg of the old car was AUF 45 which all the local kids knew as An Ugly F.....g 4.5. How could it be forgotton? Anyway it did much for my later interest in Lotus and Lagonda! The web site corrected my spelling of Cottrell and enabled me to get on with the article. Many thanks Lyndon Davies Nov 04
