Invader Mk3 - Ballast Resistor & Handbrake Cable

Postby MrRoJangles » Tue Aug 23, 2016 12:13 pm

Hello All,

Sorry if these questions were asked before. I got a new ballast resistor from Brian, but cannot see where in the car this is? can anyone help?
Also, I need a new handbrake cable does anyone know if this is specially made for the MK3 or can I buy one from a auto spare shop? If so what was the donor car?

Thank you in advance

Hi Mr RJ, the ballast resistor may have been moved or removed by a previous owner. There should be 2 wires attached to the + side of the coil one of these ( white?) should lead to the ballast resistor.
If it has been removed completely then I would think the coil has also been replaced, a ballast resistor needs to run with a 9v coil.
The car would also originally have been fitted with a 4 terminal starter solenoid the threaded terminal also leads to the ballast resistor.
If you need a wiring sketch let me know (address in front of Rarebit) and I'll draw you one.

The handbrake cable is a specific length for a Gilbern, all model h/brake cables are available from BG

Thank you Gavin for your response. I will look again for the resistor and wait BG to return to get my hands on the cable.

On the Mk3, the ballast resistor should be on top of the chassis rail, nearside in front of the brake servo.
I replaced my my handbrake cable with a Contina Mk3 (the donor of the axle) - looked identical to me.

Hi,

BG is back, so handbrake cables are back on the market! Buy now while stocks last.

Thank you Admin and Fareham GT, BG shipped the cable yesterday, still no joy with locating resistor.

A previous owner may have replaced the coil with a 12v unit. No ballast resistor needed.
