Corsa B electric power steering

Postby rsgm » Sat Feb 22, 2020 2:21 pm

Hello all,
I am trying to find the date of the issue of Rarebit that details the fitting of Corsa B EPS in an Invader MK111, it is mentioned in several forum posts about EPS. With the date I can watch Ebay to purchase a copy or even better still if a member has an unwanted copy that I could purchase.
Thank You in anticipation,
Jeff

Hi Guys,

I'd also be interested in learning more about this if someone could send me the details also.
All the best,

Hi Ian,
if you PM me with your email address I can send you the writeup I did on mine for Jeff and the text-only writeup that came via Gavin McArdle. Gavin has the pictures that go with it, but they were too big to send via email.

regards,
John

Hi,
I have just bought the 'club' Invader estate which is on its last legs :-)
One of the plans is to install PAS in due course I would appreciate any information as well please.
I have installed Corsa B in a Rickman in the past, but it always helps to avoid stupid errors if someone else has done the hard work on a Gilbern.
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve, welcome to the Gilbern Madhouse, you obviously have a sense of humour so should fit in well!!!!
I have fitted Corsa EPS to my MK2 about 3 years ago. I think it a worth while mod. I cannot advise you as a Gilbern spokesperson but am happy to help from a personal viewpoint. There is just enough space behind the dash to fit a Corsa C although you might have to move the dash into the car about 1/2''. The two main sticking points are the plenum chamber alongside the present column which gets in way of the EPS unit and the closeness of the lower column to both the exhaust and its clearance beneath the water pump. The rail that the rack sits on also needs some bracing as it is only mounted by a bolt at each end which will allow it to pivot if not braced.
My details are in the front of Rarebit, if you email me I can forward you the address of a member who has just completed his conversion and taken loads of pic which I am sure he will send you. There are also articles in old Rarebits, I believe in 2013 from both Chris Bews and myself which you may find usefull.

Hi All,

I apologise for resurrecting this old thread, but would someone be able to send me their notes and pictures on how to install the Corsa B PAS steering column into a Mk3?
All the best,

Ian

Hi Ian, I have only noticed that you have had no on-line response to your request, you may have had private ones? The only electric MK3 conversion that I have heard of is 1 done by (an ex?) member in the Enfield area who would not pass on any info.
I believe there has been some hydraulic conversions fitted (Tony Heywood?) which may be your easiest way to go.

Although not yet complete, my car now has the entire corsa column. It is fixed to mountings welded to the top rail behind the dash (that I first had to replace due to rust). Thus all switch gear comes with it (which could be a a problem for some). The end of the column appears on the far side of the bulkhead roughly where the original did.

Hi Gavin,

So far no response, but I am hopeful someone will come to my rescue.
All the best,

Ian
