New interior on it's way!

Postby Gilbern74 » Sun Nov 14, 2021 6:16 pm

My car has been with the trimmers and part of my request was for a Gilbern/Dragon logo to be imprinted on the headrests. I actually scanned the metal Gilbern badge on the front of the car, then created a graphical outline of it which the trimmer sent to their tool-makers who put it in their computer and then created the embossing tool from it. Clever stuff!

The trimmers have sent me this 'teaser' photo showing the logo on a test-piece of the leather that my Mk3 will be kitted out in.

Looks pretty damn neat if you ask me!! Love the detail in it!

Even better news for anyone else in the club - since I have paid for this custom Gilbern emboss tool to be made it is there ready to be used by anyone else who fancies the same 8) 8)
Just get in touch with Awesome Classic & Custom (based in Pidley, Cambridgeshire).

My interior is due to be finished by early December so I'll share some more pics once it's ready. Then it's off to the South coast to have the sunroof fitted!

That looks special.

Do they put the leather in a press to emboss the design, or is it done some other way?

What colour will your interior be or do we have to wait?
All the best,

Ian

Hi Ian, yes the leather is placed in a press which is wound down tight to emboss the logo.

My interior will be mostly the colour you see in that photo - Old English Tan I think it's called - although will look a different shade in natural light. There will be diamond stitching on the seats and door cards.

Having just made a new back seat for my Mk3, I can appreciate the effort that goes into car upholstery. The emblem will set the seats of nicely.
All the best,

Ian

A few more pics of the interior upholstery work taken 02.02.2022 when I paid a visit to the workshop.
Work was delayed due to Covid and is now expected to be complete in the next 2-3 weeks :D
These guys are soooooo amazing at what they do I can't recommend them highly enough. Attention to detail is incredible.

Here it is! The completed interior (bottom half at least - can't do the headlining until I get a sunroof).
'Tis a thing of real beauty 8)
