Gilbern insurance

Postby Tree man » Tue May 19, 2009 5:27 pm

Given the uncommon nature of Gilberns I am wondering if there are any insurance companies I might usefully try, for example the one in the last club mag. I choose my words carefully as really I don't want to start a good company/bad company thread as they would only be (unverifiable) personal experiences.

However Adrian Flux even better if you are insuring more than one classic or kit car.

Just a couple more to consider

1). Peter D James (the same James as in Footman James) in Hagley Road, Birmigham &
2). As seen in Classic and Sports Car. Richardson Hosken 01277 206911 as garaged second car
higher mileage if you need it of 5000 miles. they quoted 127 for a 17K Elan

I have been with Peter Best for the past 4 years. Great service, no hassle with agreed valuation and they are insuring my heavily modified V8 Mark 3 for almost the same price as a 3 litre. Also included is free breakdown insurance which gets both you and car home or to a place of your choice in with the quote. Major breakdown firms charge over 100 quid for this type of cover, so worth it.

I got refused by all of the above as my Gilbern is parked on the main road.
The only broker that would insure me were Lancaster insurance & it cost me around £300 pa. If I had a drive or garage the would be under £100 with AA/Rac type service.

I live in London.

I use RH Specialist Insurance Division. Actual Insurance is covered by Equity Red Star. Costs me £147 a year. Includes European cover. I've just checked through the wording and no mention of it having to be garaged. You could try them. 01277 206519 But parked on a main road in London....... :?

All usual features.....road side assistance, onward or recovery to home.....in the event the car is written off, they will pay out agreed value AND let you keep the car (remains  ) ....All parts of the car are covered even if you have it in bits and send anything away to be worked on.

I've had all my Gilberns with RH Specialist (Richardson Hoskins) for several years, since my previous insurer, a Mr Casey, decided to give up insurance for other interests... No problems with RH.

I had a VERY BAD experience with Adrian Flux (not with a Gilbern policy, I hasten to note) and would strongly encourage avoiding them like the plague.
