Hello from and invitation to the Continent

Postby Sabine » Mon Oct 12, 2009 9:31 pm

Hello everyone, :D

after trying hard to get registered I have now managed to get this far at least....... :?
I`m happy to be a forum-member now and to keep in touch with the Gilbern-family via the web.
After having had a broken half-shaft on my estate a couple of weeks ago my "Blodwyn" is happily back on the road again with a new shaft and I am enjoying every mile or rather kilometer with that car!
I am still looking forward to coming over for the national day again. Does anyone know the date for 2010 yet? Must fix it in my calendar.
In return I would like to invite you over to Germany!
I am aware that this is not really easy. But there is hope, right?!
Olaf and I have planned some tours of which I already have descriptions in English and dates which I would love to post to anyone interested.
For some first impressions you can also have a look on our homepage: http://oldtimersports.de - it is in German, but I am working on an English version as well.....
Now,
I wish all of you joyful miles without any problems and hope to find some new contacts here - and then in real life sometime soon.

Cheers from Germany,
Sabine :D

hi Sabine
welcome to the gilblog forum pages, early favourite date for the 2010 National day is June 27 or July 4 , these are very provisional at the moment and will be updated on Rarebit in notices in future months. The venue/date still have to be finalised but is is likely to be Haynes Museum, Somerset. 8)

Hi Sabine :D

Welcome to the forum.

We met at National Day this year, Alison and Wayne, we sat at the same table for the evening meal. You were both great company :D

Not so good about your half shaft, we hear that getting parts for the MGC rear axle over in Europe is very difficult and expensive :(

Glad you are back on the road. I'm still keeping an eye out for that thermostat housing for your engine like mine to help with filling and cooling the system, if you remember it.

Come back on here often and when you get full permission you will find a large amount of information and friendship on here.

PS Thank you for the T shirts.

National Day dates sound suitable for us - I will be patient and look it up here or in the Rarebit.
Thanks a lot!!! :D

Hi Wayne,

of course I remember!!
Have also just emailed to you via the forum before posting here.....

I will try to visit the forum from time to time. Don´t know my membership number - that makes permission difficult
The half-shaft was quite expensive, yes. But I needed it and I am glad that the right part arrived. It was just shortly before we had of our tours. My mechanic did magic and fixed it just in time!!!
I`m happy that nothing worse happened when it broke (just before the cracking noise forced us to stop on the way to a pub, I had been going quite fast downhill - lucky me it did not brake at this moment!!!).
We can order parts fairly easily in Germany. But prices are a problem. Will get a used second shaft for safety from Roger, when I come to England next time.
Now in autumn and winter we won´t suffer from overheating problems at least, so the next months might have some days for comfortable driving.....
Now, best wishes to Alison as well and good night for now (we are one hour ahead over here....),

Welcome and please contribute to this forum as often as you can.

My German is zero but is that a Lancia Montecarlo on you site? I've always wanted one of them 8)

Hi Derek,

thanks for your welcome.
Yes, that is a Montecarlo indeed.
Olaf owns it - it is a real Rallye car with a history. He wants to bring it back on the road hopefully next year. At present it suffers from a - hopefully just minor - engine problem (we assume that one valve is "kaputt"). It is a very interesting and rare car - so it fits perfectly to a Gilbern!!!
One more reason to come and visit us .

Thanks a lot!!! :D

The haynes museum is a lovely venue which we've been to several times before, they also have a gilbern estate residing in the red room among some great classics, it maybe featured on the haynes own website by now.

They also let us use part of a race track to do some 'driving tests',NOT speed tests honest, i have a few clips of us doing these and will try to upload them onto you-tube soon.

I have heard of the museum and are really curious!!!
There was an article on Rarebits about the estate arriving there, do I remember this correctly?
We will do everything to take part again!!! The meeting this June was just great and we keep telling people over here how great and lovely all the Gilbern Owners are!!

I love German. Will you forgive me a quip?

At present there's an important "internet freedom of speech" defamation case going on in London, where A is suing B because a third-party commenter on B's site described A as (among other things) :

"one cherry short of a Schwarzwälderkirstorte"

Excellent fun, but serious implications for site publishers.
