Owners in Teesside area?

Postby Greybeard » Sun Oct 11, 2009 3:56 pm

Hello. Last month I was at the big (close to 2000 vehicles), Selkirk Classic Show in my Stag and while wandering around the myriad entries, found the GOC stand, not far from our collection of SOC Stags. A friendly and helpful chat contributed to a revived interest in Gilberns in general and Invaders in particular. I owned a Mk2 around 30 years ago, (ahem!), used as all purpose transport and, particularly, towing my racing Elan around the country.
I remember the car was quick and reliable and towed particularly well, with great reliability. The overdrive on 3rd and top being very useful.
I was also at the Shildon Locomotion Classic show last weekend, again in the (blue) Stag and, by strange coincidence, looked up as three(?) Gilberns left the car park at the top of the exhibition area. Missed 'em! Drat. They had not been 'on display' with the other entries, seemingly hidden amongst the general parked cars?
So, my question is, does anyone know who was at Shildon last week? As they are likely to be from this area, I'd very much like to arrange a meet and natter, with the object of re-acquainting myself with the marque and possibly purchasing an Invader via (re-) joining the Club.
Any info would be appreciated.

Hello Greybeard - Well, I wasn't at Shildon, but am in Teesside. Also in Teesside is Dave Pacey, who has a non-running, but under restoration, Genie. Have a chat with Richard Clarke (contact details in back of Rarebit), we've been talking for a while about doing a pub night out at the Chequers near Croft, or similar.

Hi Greybeard, Had a wonderful two days touring the North Yorkshire Moors and staying in a lst class hotel in Gisburgh, organized by members of the Gilbern Owners Club. It was my first outing after 3 years restoration, car went well covering 495 miles with only one mishap. On Sunday Sue and Stuart in their red mk 3 and Betty and I in our blue mk 2 made a detour to the Steam Museum at Stockton before travelling home (Liverpool). Enjoyed classic car show exibits (your stag looked superb) and steam exhibition. Many thanks to all involved in giving a most enjoyable weekend,Colin and Betty.

Hi Colin.

Glad you enjoyed the Yorkshire Raid. We heard from Norman about your last teething problems with your brakes on way home, glad it got fixed. This is all part of putting a long term restoration back on the road. Just keep at it. I had a front caliper stick and cause the front disc to overheat and warp. Then a fueling problem that meant you could go 2-3 miles before the engine died, (turned out to be a faulty electric fuel pump) knocked an exhaust off in Edinburgh on our first Border Rievers trip......etc, so you're not alone.

Good to meet you and Betty, hope to see you again.

Wayne and Alison.

Hello again. Thanks to Dave, Colin and Wayne for your replies. In particular Wayne who has enabled me to contact Richard, the NEGOC area organiser, with a view to attending future meetings in this area. Cheers, Paul.
