Shelsley Walsh video

Postby Tree man » Mon Sep 27, 2010 2:07 pm

I have finally got around to posting the video I took at Shelsley Walsh a couple of weeks ago. Apologies for the quality but last minute camera issues meant that the one I'm currently using is fairly basic.
After a damp start the hill slowly dried to allow a real attack on the last run with the result that I recorded the fastest time I have ever been up the hill and a very very competitive time in it's class :D Would have been even quicker had the engine not cut out twice going up the hill, a dodgy coil. I will write up something for the club mag to add to the words of Ken Young to get more Gilberns out onto the hills

If you post the fastest time in your class on the day you get a very nice trophy - not the usual plastic man on a bit of fake marble. Apart from the days event you may also be entered into your club championship which has several events around ther country over the summer and get points toward that as well, which in my case has meant that I have won the 2010 'Classic Car Class' in the HSA - very nice trophy :D . It is great fun and a real adrenalin rush if you get it right. As motor sport goes it's very affordable and not that unkind on your car. You don't have to have a huge budget to get onto the hills and arguably makes it a better car as mentioned by Ken Young in the latest RAREBIT. The following link will give you a good idea of what is needed

Drop me a line if you have any queries about what it has taken to get myself and the car ready for competing. I had a call from the secretary from the Hagley and District Car Club (they run Loton park Hill Climb, I was there last weekend, video to follow) asking if the Gilbern Club would like a class of it's own next September, I suggested he contact Phil Ivimey in the first instance, but happy to help with any interest.

Good stuff Tree man keep the videos coming.

I've never competed but can recommend it as a spectator sport. Just look at this and the Loton park one and you get a feel for the variety of cars that take part. You get every thing from Classics, sports cars, hot hatches, specials to out-and-out hill climb specials. Certainly at Selsley Walsh you can usually walk around the paddock and see the cars close up.

And the entry cost are usually modest as well.
Regards,

Derek
