I have been contacted by the owner of M30048 in Australia. He bought the car about a year ago and intended to carry out a full resto. He can no longer do that, and has enquired whether the car may be of interest to any of our club members.
"The chassis appears to be okay except for a 6 inch section in front of the rightside passenger's footwell (near the sill) and the high part (under rear mudguard) on both sides that will need attention. The chassis looks nice and straight with the expected dirt, rust flakes and scale and with slight oil seepage from the rear of the motor helping to protect some sections. The Australian heat has been both good and bad.
The car appears to be complete and in relatively not to bad a condition considering what it has been through. As the old saying goes - "nothing that time and money can't cure"."
Obviously it would be expensive to ship it back to the UK so a local buyer might be the way forward.
Anyone down under interested?
If so, please contact me and I will let the owner know.
Cheers

Re: MK3 in Melbourne, Australia
I looked at this when it was for sale on ebay last year. Amongst other things, it requires both front and rear windscreens which are only available from the UK. I have found that although it is relatively easy to buy the screens in the UK, no one will ship them, due to insurance issues with glass items and you can't put things on a ship without them being insured. Catch 22 for importing singular glass screens.

Hi Richard ..
We had to ship some very fragile equipment via air some years ago with the same problems ...
We got around it by making a well fitting wooden box, wrapping the item in wrapping film, and using several tins of expanding foam...
It got there without any damage, and was insured, but admittably the cost went up due to the extra size & weight the box structure added..
Would this be a possible solution, or again, would the cost make it an unrealistic proposition...
More than happy to help with everything on this side of the world.

Interesting Grahame, I'll discuss this further in the year if I may? It's quite possible I may need a front screen for my Genie,If I can't get some scratches out.

Hi
Screens can be shipped, the last lot I collected were packed ready for shipping.
I think the biggest problem is using packaging that is acceptable for Oz authorities. If I recall wood is not acceptable.
If you want some give me time to sort something and I'll see what can be done.

Thanks Gavin, I have talked with Roger previously about a windscreen not long before you took over the job.
An idea of costs involved would be appreciated. Might be useful for the Mk3 mentioned in the OP.

Another fellow Gilbern Club member has commented-
"Hi,
been reading the posts on windscreens to Oz.
so Googled around and found a pos on a forum that asked about shipping a glass shower cubical to Oz.
there was a reply with this link, saying he'd used this firm to send som glass shelves , and they arrived ok,
no mention of prices though.
may be no good but worth an ask
