Which is the easiest methode to remove the paint from the whole body? As I need to repaint the car and existing paint surface is partly split and crazed I am looking for effective and efficient methode.
Who did it already and knows more about? Thanks Hans

Re: Body paint removal
Hi Hans
I removed many coats of paint from several past re-sprays all the way down to the glassfibre using a hot air gun and a scraper...
Takes a little time and practice and a face mask is a necessity..
Just soften the paint (don't burn) and you can remove a strip at a time ...
The photo shows the rear wing on the estate, and that took about 90 mins to do...

I'm not a lover of chemical strippers on glass fibre, and I have heard good reports from others of Soda Blasting, but have no first hand knowledge of it..

Re: Body paint removal
B&Q do a GRP-friendly paint stripper which looks a bit like wallpaper paste &
is very benign, which I have tried, but varying grades of wet or dry seemed
to be the best option, if you've a few months available (!)
I'd not thought of using a hot air gun, as I thought it would be disastrous for
the gelcoat, but maybe I'll try it...
I have found that the gelcoat seems very thin in places, which, whilst the surface
is still smooth means the coloured area is eliminated.

Hi I stripped mine dry with blunt wide hacksaw blade.
I have made my own stripper for removing antifouling from GRP dinghies , Caustic soda mixed with wallpaper paste works ok but you need to keep it damp as when it dries out not very effective.

Re: Body paint removal
Hi all,
I did mine with a DA sander on the outside ,the inside was done with a soda blaster because it goes quicker.
The outside was not done with soda because you have to neutralise the soda with water and vinegar to remove the
transparent coating and water with GRP are not good friends as everybody knows .The inside (doors, bonnet etc) was cleaned
with vinegar and water ,dried for days in the summer and passed over with a DA sander afterwards.
If you need more info , please ask before you attack the cellulose on that dragon.
Merry Christmas to all the members !
