Thanks for the Enlightenment and Awe.......

Postby Reddi-Eng » Sun Feb 24, 2008 7:58 pm

Up to now I have tried to just keep my MkIII on the road promising myself that when I retire I will have time to do all those jobs I know need doing. This year’s MOT has put a new complexion on things. A combination of a keen MOT inspector producing a long list of “advisories” and an adjustment of my work/life balance (HR speak for working part time) means that some of these jobs may soon be coming to fruition.

Consequently I have been seriously browsing this forum and see many of my tasks are topics being aired – Overheating, Autobox removal, Wiring Looms , Suspension bushes etc. etc. spookey!

Anyway two thoughts come to mind.

Firstly, is all the invaluable advice and guidance in this forum being captured for future generations of Gilbern Owners?

Secondly, even with my engineering background, I am constantly amazed and in awe by the in-depth knowledge some contributors have on auto-engineering in general and Gilberns in particular.

When I was in my teens & early Twenties back in the sixties I had no problems “fixing” cars, rebuilding engine etc. but then opted out when career, marriage, family etc. lured me to "sensible" cars. I wish now I had continued to gain this knowledge and experience.

15 years ago my career peaked, the kids left home and I worked up the courage to ask the wife’s permission to buy a hobby car and this led eventually to the MKIII I have today.

So guys, thanks a million in advance for all the answers to all the questions I’m going to fire at you over the next few months (years) to tap into this knowledge. :D
Regards,

Derek

Firstly, welcome and I am glad you find this forum and it's content in particular, useful.

The answer to your first question is - Yes
This board is regularly monitored for content, miss leading or miss guided comment and, at the same time cherry picked for anything new or advisory.
QED my expos'e on the tri-lever Mk3 in Rarebit, taken from a posting.

However, many of the topics have already been well covered in previous GOC publications. So if you cannot face searching or do not have access to a complete archive, it is all on the disc - indexed and yours for a modest price.

Further don't get me started on HR. I never had much time for Personnel, but when the department is replaced by HR (human 'resources') the writing is on the wall.
