Re: New MEMBER
Hi and welcome.
Certainly an excellent choice of model!
I think this car is chassis no. M30023 and I have been watching it on ebay.
If you have any details to add to the club file on the car, please send them to me and I will update our records and give you a copy.
My email address is nwhitty@tesco.net.
Cheers

Re: New MEMBER
Nigel,
Can I ask what progress you are making on the MkIII history and what plans you have to publish this data? I think I sent you details of my car but have not heard anything since.

Re: New MEMBER
I may be able to help with the rear bumper. I am going for a set of stainless ones for my Mark3 which is currently being restored by Philip Ivimey. Quite a lot of bits have come off this Mark 3 which have gone to the Club - the latest edition of rarebit lists the Compomotive wheels that used to be fitted as I now need 15 x7J minilites for the uprated brembo front brakes from a BMW M5. Other bits which have gone to the club have been the 3.1 uprated essex engine and gearbox, a renovated overdrive unit that I thought I needed for my Mark 2, a 3.5 Rover engine and a 5 speed gearbox which was not capable of handling the power of the engine I finally opted for.
Make an offer for the rear bumber and I will ask Philip to reserve it for you.

Re: New MEMBER
Suggest you ask philip. He knows both the mark 3 he is restoring and my mark 2 which I am still debating about selling once the mark 3 is finished. It is probably the most used car in the club having covered 45,000 miles in the past 3 years.

Re: New MEMBER
Right, Ray - You've got my curiosity going now.
If a 3.1 engine AND a 3.5 V8 were surplus to requirements, just WHAT ARE you putting in there? Especially that requires BMW Brembos?
Mark Donahue had a quote about ' If you can leave two solid black lines from the apex of one corner to the braking point of the next, then you have enough power'.
There are going to be some powerful Gilberns out there!

Hi John,
Grill badge on its way, and I think you will find the chassis number is on the chassis by the Petrol pump on the nearside, not the alternator which is the other side. The number will be stamped on a bit of 1/4 steel plate welded to the top rail and should read M30023 (cause I checked it out)
Roger Spares
Oh and by the way, Derek, Genie's are best - proper cars!!!!!

Re: New MEMBER
Interesting point reference the chassis plate location, This is mine on my MkIII

I know I'm not the most technically knowlegdable member but that does look like the Alternator and Steering column to me
Seriously, my chassis plate is just below the alternator on the off-side, does this mean they were place in different places on different cars? (or were MKII or Genies different?)

I've had four chasses (only three of which had bodies) and found them on both sides.Oh and by the way, Derek, Genie's are best - proper cars!!!!!
Roger should have said:"Oh and by the way, Derek, WIRE-WHEELED Genie's are best - proper cars!!!!!"

probably depended on if it was the right handed or left handed fitter on that day

Re: New MEMBER
You asked about the engine in the Mark 3 that is being restored. The new engine is a 4.6 litre Rover V8 with stage 3 heads. The gearbox is a T5 from a TVR. The distributor is the Mallory Unalite and the carb is a Weber 500 with a pancake K&N filter - hence no power bulge needed.
The rear axle was rebuilt by Quaife to include an ATB LSD. The front brakes are 315mm Brembos and the rear discs are 280mm ex Cosworth. The engine fitted rather neatly and no mods to the bonnet were required. Not a great deal of room left in the engine bay. I mooted power steering - but no room - will need to go to the gym instead!!!!
To dissipate the heat the engine is fitted with an oil cooler and an aluminium radiator. Will post some photos later if you are interested.
Hopefully the mechanicals will be completed by the end of April, but will still need to consider what colour the car will be. It was originally white, but is now BL Blaze and in need of a respray. Options for colour are red or midnight blue - other people tell me that white is the new black and I should return it to its original colour - decisions decisions!!!
