Invader MK1

Postby colincrookston » Sun Jan 03, 2010 2:18 pm

Hi Guys,

I have my dads Invader out in the garage, last on the road in 2002, no real problems with the car when it was put away, (electric window on the driver side not closing).

Anyway, reg number UFS 136H. It's an early 1970 car (January I think).

In short, it has sat in the garage for so many years, is it something that would be of any interest to club members? How much is it worth? (as I say, not started for 8 years, but the body work etc... is in good condition, interior is nice, I think the overdrive even worked when it was put away - don't quote me on that though!).

If anyone would like to know more, my email address is colin@crookston.eu and my mobile is 0780312421.

Thanks,

Colin.

This would appear to be Invader Mk1 IN1025 reg UFS136H, first registered 15/01/1970.
When last reported in 2006, the condition was good and restored.

That's the one, it is in good restored condition, however as I say, it hasn't been out of the garage since 2002, and hasn't been started in that time.

I have been doing further investigation as to why it has been sitting so long, there is one slight fault. Back when it was on the road, my father in his wisdom decided that the timing was off, so went about setting it himself, it seems he had the wrong settings, so it was parked in the garage with the timing set wrong, with the intention of putting it right in the coming weekends, that weekend would apear not to have come round.

So, in short, he is fairly sure it is more or less ready just to nip down and get an mot, just a few hours work needed. So, I think I might just do that. However, due to my Citroens, I wouldn't be keeping it.

If anyone has any interest, I plan on getting it cleaned up, started, and get some photos taken over the next few weekend, also, it is located in central scotland.

If it's been sitting since 2002 I think there may be some work to do. Petrol will be stale, Rubber seals may be hardened or perished, Tyres will have hardened and become brittle even if the tread looks OK, Brakes & Clutch may be seazed. Even the chassis rusted if it was put away damp. Probably a new battery as well.

So it may look OK, but it may also need some work. Last thing you want is for something to happen on the way to the MOT!
Regards,

Derek

Colin,

I personally would get the car running and get it an MOT to get the best price for it.

The indicator on price is the condition of the chassis as this is probably the expensive thing to rectify on a car. It sounds like the car has all it's glass, interioer etc intact. Again the Club has recently helped out with a couple of transactions on cars recently to make sure they go to good homes.

Prices for Gilberns are really dependant on condition.

Could you post a few pictures here ??

Thanks

Chris

Thanks for all the replys.

The car was well cared for and wasn't brought out in the damp, never mind the rain, so when put away it was put away dry (also, it is a very good garage, part of the house, next to the 2 boilers for the house, so dry and warm)

To the best of my knowledge the chassis was perfect when put away. Yes, I appreciate there will be some recomission work, brake needing freeing (what are the handbrakes like on these, it was parked with the handbrake off). Tyres will need changing (which is a pain, they are perfect and full tread michelins) and a all the hoses will need a good look at.

Like I say, the only photos I have are from before it was put away and they're not digital. Hopefully I will get it cleaned up and photos taken soon, and I will post them here.

Colin.
