Re: GT Identity issue
Clive, it would possibly be more original to have a B motor because AFAIK the V4 never made it to production and the B engine was retro-fitted by Gilbern. The V4 is an awful piece of tat. Peter

Re: GT Identity issue
While not a GT expert, I can echo series4, that the V4 was a failed experiment that never made it into real production.
The concept was a of coarse a comprise most likely because the V6 would not fit under the GT shell, leading in turn to the Genie etc.
If you want to find out more about your particular car, then best revert to snail-mail and drop a line to Brian Gent for the full SP

Re: GT Identity issue
Hi Clive, C100257 does not appear in the "known" list of Gilberns in Australia. Could you give more details of this and upload a picture or two?

Re: GT Identity issue
It also appeared in Sports Car World July-Sept 1983 but was registered LQY-106, unless there's another red one in Sydney we don't know about.

Re. Australian GT C.100257
I have recently received copies of some postings from the Gilblog about the above GT, in an attempt to answer these various questions, I can confirm that this car was originally registered DGL 12D on 1” July 1966 at Bath 8 Vehicle Registration Office. I am sure that this car was only ever fitted with a MGB engine, only the first few ’C’ chassis cars were fitted with the ill fated V4 unit, ’C’ chassis cars started at chassis number C.100241.
Club ownership records on this car are some what sparce, the first owner we have record of, is J.F. King from Blackwater, Surrey and after that H.M.J. Wilcox from Barham, Kent. In a detailed article by Pedr Davis published in Modern Motor February 1985 pages 106/107 it states that Elizabeth Stacey purchased this car in London in 1971 for $800, this date does not tie up with the club records, the article however contains a lot of errors, for instance the statement that this GT was possibly the prototype and that it was fitted with a 6 speed electric over-drive!
Clive Stacey E-mailed the club in March 2000 to say that he had taken over the car from his mother and that she had just had the car restored. Elizabeth lived in Milton, New South Wales. I can only presume the car has now moved area as Clive’s E-mails are from Sydney.
As for others GT’s in Australia they are: B.100107, B.100175, B.100217, B.100221 and B.100234 which brings the total to 6 and as we are talking about things down under B.100139 is in New Zealand.
Hoping this clears things up.

Re: GT Identity issue
Speaking of B.100217, it's on the verge of being scrapped because it's too much work for me. Virtually every tube in the chassis needs replacing. We got a another chassis from the Club a number of years ago but it's too crooked to use although handy as a reference. We bought it sight unseen and fully aware of the risk so there's no animosity. I'm about a third of the way through chassis repairs (then comes body, interior, wiring etc) but I now have my father's pre-war Aston and Singer to fettle as well so something has to give. Should increase the value of all the remaining GTs!
