MIRA

Postby Tree man » Sat May 19, 2012 8:59 pm

Really looking forward the next weekend when my season gets underway at MIRA sprint. Not everybodies cup of tea as there are no spectators and no camaras (test venue for all sorts of vehicles) and it's on an old airfield. However it's probably one of the fastest venues of the year, I will be hoping to crack the 100mph - I've got up to 95mph. After hitting top speed you go into a fast right hander with just a dab on the brakes as this is were a lot of time is made or lost depending on how much speed you can carry into the corner - test your nerve as the car starts to drift across the track and you can feel the back end thinking about letting go.
I get the car back from RGS Motorsport after a session on the rolling road sorting out the jetting on the new twin Weber DCOE carb set up. Looks great, sounds great and coupled with a racier cam plus higher compression pistons I'll be disappointed if it doesn't beat the last years 170hp

Enthusiasm, a lot of money and a winters works count for nothing if the head gasket goes the evening before the event :( Whatever the cause I only have myself to blame as I rebuilt the engine. A friend with a V6 Marcos suggested it might be linked to the higher compression pistons and aftermarket/ebay head gaskets - he had a similar problem cured with more reputable gaskets.
The heads are stripped off and will be back in one piece for Curborough on the 10th June

Bad luck on the gasket, but better now than half way through a run ..

As you have the heads off, now is the chance to get all the volume measurements to work out the exact CR... " a few minutes work with an empty syringe (available from any chemist without any sharpes) a smear of grease, and some thin oil..

Best of luck

Grahame
