book 'BRITISH AUTO LEGENDS'

Postby 'Gilbert' » Fri Nov 02, 2007 12:57 pm

Apparantly the above coffee table book by Michel Zumbrunn and Richard Heseltine features a Gilbern model. Anyone know which one?

Classic and Sportscar Dec issue comment that 'no MGB or Elan, but space found for XJS, Marcos, Trident and Gilbern'. Obviously the authors have taste !!

Can't help with that one but I do have a copy of "Post War British Thoroughbreds and Specialist Cars" by Bruce A Hudson with an excellent 6 page Gilbern GT write up.

533 UPH is featured with a Shorrock supercharger. Does she still exist ??

Sorry to derail the thread a little :-)

Specialist Sports Cars - Richard Heseltine

Postby Bitsa » Sun Nov 11, 2007 3:32 pm

Another one for the Christmas stocking is Specialist Sportscars by Richard Heseltine published by Haynes.

It has 27 specialist British manufacturers includine Gilbern, TVR, Fairthorpe and 24 others ....

6 pages on Gilberns.

BYF 663B is the Gilbern GT .... nice big picture of of a Genie VNY 93G as well as a silver Invader II with no number plate .....

The good thing about the book is it puts some context around the commercial success of Gilbern relative to most of the other ventures such as Berkley, Costin, Diva, Rochdale and Tornado.

Bruno Meier has sent in copies of the submission which features images of the Mk3 but gives a brief history of Gilbern cars and broadly mentions all marks.
