Gilbern Invader Coupe and Estate to Shoot & Model

Postby Automodello » Fri Dec 13, 2013 6:47 pm

Hello,

I am looking for a Gilbern Invader coupe and estate to shoot during the first week of February 2014. The examples can be original or restored. It generally takes 3 to 4 hours to shoot the first car (coupe) and probably another hour for the estate for 300 to 500 documenting images. From these images, we'll create Gilbern Invader models in 1/43 scale.

My company, Automodello produces limited run of high-spec, hand-built, resin cast models. Our first release was the Griffith Series 200 which was derived from the TVR Grantura in 2010. Since then Automodello has been awarded Model of the Year in 2011 and 2012, and, most recently our 1965 Sunbeam Tiger Mark I will be Model of the Month in Model Collector magazine (UK). On the Automodello website there are details on how models go from conception to completion: http://www.automodello.com/designanddevelopment.html

Our approach to the Gilbern Invader will be similar to our approach with the TVR M-Series, TVR M-Series Turbo, Dual-Ghia, Cunningham C-3 and Bricklin. The final model covers 1969-1973. So if the model I shoot is a later Mk II Invader, then this will carry more presence than an earlier Mk I. At this point, colors and details have not been finalized. Are any of the key people in Gilbern's history still alive. Last, I try as much as possible to work with a small team of owners to critique the models during development, this is usually 3 to 5 people and are known as a Tiger Team. Those on the team are asked for critical critique of images during development.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Best regards and cheers,
Jim

As there was no apparent reaction to this request, did they manage to
get a car for their research into the Invader model they are planning??

Yes, I did shoot a car back in January - both a Genie and an Invader Estate. The Genie will make production first in 2015.

The history has been reviewed and approved by the club. It is posted onto the Automodello website along with the statement about being licensed by Gilbern Owners Club UK.

What would be helpful is Automodello typically releases up to 4 colors per model. For example, with the recently released 1963 Studebaker Avanti and upcoming 1956-1958 Dual Ghia, the releases were:
119.95$US Standard Edition in Avanti Red or Gold Metallic; Dual-Ghia Red or Blue
150.00$US Tribute Edition in Turquoise was limited to 50 Avanti; 157.00$US in Calypso Coral will be limited to 57 Dual-Ghia
235.00$US Homage Edition is always in black, limited to 24.

For the 1969 Gilbern Genie what were the most popular colors:
119.95$US for standard edition
235.00$US for Homage Edition in black with tan interior, limited to 24
There could be a Tribute Edition to celebrate 45-years or upcoming 50th anniversary in 2019. Alternatively the Tribute Edition could be sponsored by the club as we recently did with the Sunbeam Tigers Owners Club UK for TIGER 50 - http://www.diecasm.com/servlet/the-Marque-%7C-Brand-cln-Sunbeam/Categories

For questions or comments, please post here or send to "automodello at gmail dot com"

Thank you and best regards,
Jim

Hi Jim,

Good to hear from you again, as for colours I suggest you email Julian Crinall, the clubs Genie Historian on julian.crinall@talktalk.net, he will be able to give you figures on the most popular colour, and the colours that the Genie was produced in.

All the best

Brian

Hi Grahame,

A rather nice model in green with a beige vinyl roof!

Having placed a pre-order a few days ago, I'd not given the colour of the Genie/Invader much thought, I just wanted to grab one in case they sell out fast! (Having suffered in the past when I told my ex/ex wife I was going to book tickets to see Clannad when they were at the height of their fame & left it too late

Now I've read about there being a choice of colours, a full set would be nice & the black with tan interior sounds
very appealing... 8)
