Paint Colour MK 1
I have a MK1 Invader, the colour was gold, I have been given the paint code numbers, Rolls Royce Golden Sand 9510143 and ICI M151-3456.
Whilst most paint companies recognise the Rolls Royce paint number, they still can't get me any paint.
The codes were given to me by Grahame Slope on here, is there any one else who has a Gold coloured Gilbern that could point me in the right direction please.

Hi there,
Peter Allen from Bath has a gold MK.11 Invader, you can see pictures of it on the carandclassic website, as Peter currently has the car for sale, the site also contains his contact details.

Hi ..
Just checked to confirm I gave you the right code ... Check here, on page 5 http://rrtechnical.info/miscellaneous/PaintCodes.pdf
If you have the paint code then any of the Trade paint suppliers should be able to mix it for you ..
A quick trawl on the web shows that AutoPaints Brighton http://www.autopaintsbrighton.co.uk/classic--vintage-car-paint-78-c.asp will mix paint from paint codes
They will do good old celly, 2K, and aerosol cans ..
But any trade paint supplier should be able to mix it..

Re: Paint Colour MK 1
The paint codes appear to be correct, but all the paint companies I have contacted don't recognize either code, although they do say they have the right number of digits etc.
Autopaints, don't recognize the codes.
I'm sure other Gilberns have been painted this colour.

Have spoken to an old friend who used to be in the refinishing trade, who will have a look through his old ICI books to see if he can cross reference it with the newer paint codes they have..
Have made a few enquiries from other sources as well...
Hopefully we should be able to get to the correct code at some point..

Heard from the Rolls Royce Enthusiast club, and they suggest contacting http://www.woodautofactors.com who they use to supply the paint for their cars.
They are also going to send me some files they have collected about the various paint codes.
So watch this space as they say

Update .....
Had an update from http://www.woodautofactors.com who are waiting for a reply from ICI Technical, but they ask if you have a section of the car with the original paint on it, so they can scan it and may be able to match it that way..
Let me know if you have...

Latest Info ..
This has come from PA Wood, who I was passed on to by Bentley and were looking into it for me ... Not looking promising, but hopefully they will find a bit for a spraycard, and then it can be scanned by just about any auto paint supplier ..

Good morning Grahame,
Hope you are well.
Unfortunately we have been unable to find any other code for this colour. We don't have any Golden sands paint on site to look at .We may ( that's a big may ) have a small amount elsewhere that we may be able to make a spray out card for you to get some mixed.
Hope this is of some help.
Best regards,
Andy Smith

Re: Paint Colour MK 1
Please let me know how you get on, and if they do get a code from what they mix, I would appreciate it for my files, in case someone else wants its..
As another possibility, Jaguar used a Golden Sands colour on their cars of the era, I don't know how close it is to the RR version, but it might be another avenue to explore.

Re: Paint Colour MK 1
Brilliantly good news... PA Woods have found a small tin of paint, and will provide a spray out card for me, so at last we will have the colour code for Rolls Royce Golden Sand, in fact it would seem that we will be the only people with the correct code.
All my thanks to the various people and companies who have helped find this, including, Rolls Royce Enthusiast Club, Rolls Royce Cars Archives, Bentley Cars Archives, and of course Andy & Steve from P & A Woods who have found the paint.
Good fun this historian thing...

Sorry for the delay getting back to you.
We have, at last, found a small tin of Golden Sand. Steve in the body shop is preparing a 'spray out' card for you.
Best etc, Andy

Re: Paint Colour MK 1
Hey Grahame, without being picky, the sample looks more like Rolls Royce shell grey to me...
(and I have no idea what shell grey actually looks like)
Whatever, with the amazing amount of effort you've put into the research, I hope it IS
golden sand!
Best Regards, John
