Craig
My wheels are looking a bit tired, does the hammerite work and did you use anything else?

they look fantastic, smooth black did the job, 2 tins at £5.50 each did all 5 wheels, dont use the one called hammered look, its fiddley but well worth it, if you look on grahams pictures on flickr.com on the renovation of his wheels, its a similar look to those but graham did them much more proffessionally and he has ended up with a concourse finish on his wheels, mine look clean and black which is all i wanted, ive gone a little none retro in the fact that the centre caps are enamel red, just the tiny tin from a model shop, on reflection i should have found a sort of hammerite colour of graphite grey with a ali centre cap, maybe next year ill change them , this year was just about tidying the car to put in a local show . but i have rushed it a little, another tip when painting the hammerite on is , tilt the wheel towards a wall and when it comes to painting the pockets around the wheel that face you, the paint dosent run over the side of the 1/2 " ali rim, also dont spread hammerite too thick its coverage is fantastic.. regards.. ps in preperation to hammerite

i washed the wheel with soapy water twice , then went round the wheel with white spirit on a cloth in to all the nooks and crannies, i also hammerited the reverse of the wheel but the finish is somewhat rougher.

Craig ..

Thanks for the kind words about the wheels... but I think the flikr picture flatters my work a bit, as they have come up good but not concourse...

I used Simonize Tough Black which is extreme temp and a Satin finish, but apart from masking as I sprayed them, the preparation was much the same as yours..

As to where is everybody, I've been wondering that myself, but it seems that some may not want to be associated with the forum after the rather derogatory remarks that were made last month, reference us "Screen Watchers".

I speak to a lot of people that visit the pages every day, but who will not post because of the "anti" attitude that seems to emerging.

Shame really, it was becoming a real fun and interesting place, but as most of us use other forums as well, or converse regularly via e-mail, I suppose we are talking there instead..

Perhaps we will have to take the virtual group to another level and move it away from those that appear to have issues with it.

Anyway, there are still a few interesting threads going on, even though new input is somewhat sporadic, and it may pick up again in time.

Grahame

the black hammerite on your blue minkish shade gilbern would make it look a million dollars, try it on the spare, good luck..the inner sections next to the alloy rim will require no wider than a 1/4 " brush and plenty of patience

The colour is grey but it used to be blue. I should change my user name.

Have a look at the gallery and go to RAF Marham 2007. My car is Chris Dennis's old car.
