Smell of petrol

Postby blue1 » Thu May 28, 2009 9:20 pm

Does anyone else has the same experience of a strong smell of petrol coming from the boot. Also some people have commented that they can smell petrol around the car.

Hi if you can smell petrol that strong you have a problem which needs sorting. The tanks are made of mild steel and the bottoms often sit in a puddle of water in the boot and eventully they get porous. Other possibilties, one of the tank outlet or inlets have split away from the tank, the hose connecting the two tanks is leaking or the inlet pipe conection to the fuel filler is leaking. I spent ages trying to find out where my leak was coming from and traced it to one of the bottom outlet pipes which is brased to the tank and the brase had split. Roger Spares supplied a second hand tank that cured it instantly. Good luck
