I have a mk1 invader and my fuel gauge is not working.
I do not know how to test which is broken, the sender unit or fuel gauge?

Re: sender unit & fuel gauge
I'm pretty sure if you take the sender wire of and put it straight to earth (with ignition on )then watch the gauge it should shoot straight up to full, if it does the sender is at fault, if not check the earth to the gauge and that you have power in the first instance. the temp gauge works in the same way if you pull the sender wire of and put it straight to earth the temp shoots up to max. as it happens i am just putting my car on the road for the first time tomorrow after a 19 year gap and i noticed tonight that my fuel gauge is not working so tomorrow i've got some checking to do. best of luck..Kev

Go along with everything Kev says, but he didn't mention the earth at the sender end, it can't go to earth if it hasn't got one!
If it is the sender at fault, take it out of the tank and check for a broken wire. Mine broke off right next to where it wrapped around the terminal piller (there is no solder inside the tank). So I just unpicked one coil and re terminated.
