Chris omits to add that the paddock is furnished with a beer tent run by Otter Brewery.

All competitors are required to attend a briefing there on the Saturday evening at 1700, and will be tested to ensure they have drunk enough.

Dear Members,
The entry for this year's Five Clubs Wiscombe Park Hilliclimbs is a little thin, with just Brain Gent in his GT1800 (reg AMJ 630C) entered on Saturday 2nd September, in the Gilbern class. On Sunday Brain is
joined by Ken Young in his GT1800 for a two way fight for the Wiscombe Cup.

For both days practice starts at 8.30 am, with timed runs starting around 1 pm. Admission is usually about £10 per Adult. Hope to see you there.

Kind regards

Chris

Dear Members,
Sadly Ken Young has had to withdraw his GT1800, due to fuel surge problems he had at Crystal Palace. So there will only be Brian Gent competing both days in his GT1800.

Kind regards

Chris

Dear Members,
It was a very wet, and windy Wiscombe Cup with non stop rain. The organizers Five Clubs coped very well, and with all the competitors being sensible they did 2 practice runs, and one timed run without a lunch break by 1 pm. At which staged they stopped the meeting, and declared the results, as the grass paddock was too slippery, and I don't think there was anyone who was unhappy about this.

Brian Gent kept the GT1800 on the black stuff, and got quicker with every run. As the only Gilbern Brian won the class. Sadly for Brian, history tells us the Wiscombe Cup is not awarded when there is only one competitor, e.g. Nigel Ellis 1999, 2000, and Nick Vandervell 2005.

I don't think this worries Brian too much, as the day before on the Saturday hillclimb he was flying on a hot summer's day. His second practice run of 50.79, was 3 seconds quicker than the quickest GT time ever at Wiscombe Park. This was the same GT1800 (AMJ) when owned by Dr Paul Scott in 1976, when Paul did a 53.88 on his second timed run.

Brian backed this up on his first timed with a 51.15, and a 51.60 on his second timed run, which Brian felt was quicker, but he had to back off on the last corner, as the previous car had put mud on the track. Again as the only competitor in the Gilbern class he took the class win.

Kind regards

Chris
