Wiscombe Cup 5th Sept 2021

Postby ChrisD » Tue Aug 10, 2021 8:50 pm

Dear Members,

We have an amazing ten Gilbern entries for the Wiscombe Cup on the Sunday for the Five Clubs hillclimb at Wiscombe Park, Devon, on the 4th/5th September.

Chris Dennis Gilbern Invader Mk 1 2994
Keith Marchant Gilbern Invader Mk 3 2997
Brian Gent Gilbern GT1800 1950
Colin McLatchie Gilbern GT1800 1850
Peter Swann Gilbern Genie 2994
Alexander Ward Gilbern Invader Mk 3 3000
Mark Jones Gilbern Genie 2300 (Mercedes powered!)
Mat Olejniczak Gilbern Genie 2994
David Smith Gilbern 1800GT 1798
Mary Bell Gilbern 1800GT 1798

For Saturday we have nine Gilbern entries, with Mat only doing Sunday in his Genie. Also new member, and Spa 6 Hours ace Iain Rowley is sharing the late Mike Bell's GT1800 with David Smith, rather than Mike's sister Mary Bell. Currently Iain is on the reserve list, but I will be surprised if he doesn’t get onto the entry list.

Even better news is from the 5th August the general public can buy tickets to watch in September on the Wiscombe Park website www.wiscombepark.co.uk . You can pay cash only on the day, but please have the correct change. Wiscombe are trying to get most tickets sold in advance, not only for covid best practice, but also to reduce queuing at the entrance. I am asking for a space to be saved for GOC members in Gilberns, hopefully at the top of the hill at Martini, like in 2019. See you there.

Dear Members,
It was a bright sunny weekend at the Five Clubs, Wiscombe Park Hillclimb meeting. There were dices throughout the Gilbern class, including the fight for the class win. Each day Brian Gent went head to head with hillclimb newcomer Mark Jones in his Mercedes powered Genie. Mark finally came out on top each day, despite his gearlever snapping off on his very first run up the hill. Third in class was also hotly contested between Colin McLatchie, and another hillclimb newcomer Alex Ward, with Colin coming third each day, just ahead of Alex.

The Wiscombe Cup saw two more hillclimb newcomers fight it out, with Mat Olejniczak finally improving more than Mary Bell, to win the Cup on Sunday. The Ken Young Trophy for fastest Gilbern over the weekend, went to the flying Mark Jones. See the times of the whole class below:
