fuel filter

Postby blue1 » Mon Jun 07, 2010 10:04 pm

i have mk1 Invader with a mechanical fuel pump with inline fuel filter.

The fuel filter only contains 1/4 of petrol in it at all times.

Is this correct or should it be full of fuel?

I would say that is correct as the pump is in suction. If you have a 1/4" dia tube inlet into the filter and the same dia outlet then the volume of petrol in the filter would be about the same as if it were in just a piece of tube.

If the pump was pushing the fuel in to the filter the volume would increase due to the pressure.

I have a glass filter with an electric pump pushing fuel through the filter and it is never more than half full...

As long as it never empties when running there should be no problem...
