Hello Robin,

Thanks for your reaction, and what a good looking car! I may be interested in the mk3 on Ebay, probably will have a look this weekend.

I have thought about restoring a car for ages and this seems like not a bad start?!

I have done a bit of research and know the mechanicals are standard Ford. The body, being fiber glass is easier to work on and doesn't rust obviously. This one looks in poor condition, but am tempted to check it out.

Is there anything in particular I should look at? Is it worth restoring?

Thanks

Casey

Hi Casey and welcome.

I spoke with Gary today re the Mk111 for sale in Melbourne and it does require, amongst other things, a front and rear windscreen which as far as I can find out are only available from the UK. If you know differently let me know as I could use a new windscreen.

If you're after a GT I may be able to put you on to one in Melbourne. PM me if interested.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the info. I am going to have a look at the mk3, but might come back to you regarding the GT..

Re wind screens, do you reckon it would be possible to find a company that can make one-offs? Where do you live, NSW or Vic?

Cheers

Casey

Hi Casey, Pilkinten will make a windscreen but it's a minimum order of 5, the windscreen for them to copy has to be delivered to Queensland and the cost was approx $3500 a couple of years ago. I think it would be cheaper to import a complete car, in good condition, from the UK.

I'm right on the border at Corowa/Wagunyah

Richard.

Hi, My name is James, I have been an on and off member of the GOC for the last 12 Years. I own two Gilberns.WYY680G : Genie, Chassis Number G1100, I purchased this in 1998 (when I was an apprentice at MOD St Athan) and CTY782K: Invader Estate. This one I persuaded the owner of a scrap yard to sell complete. It's in a bit of a state :( . I am now residing in New Zealand and am looking to bring, at least, the Genie over, and maybe the estate as well....funds permitting! Would appreciate any info on the two cars that I own, thanks!!

Hello Gilbern club, I am Chris Jones from Newport, South Wales and I recently acquired a purple Genie (chassis G1187) reg. AYC721H, which needs restoration after 40 years, but is in pretty sound condition having been stored since 1980, after 80,000 miles. Excited to own a Gilbern at last and hoping to get her on the road again one day.
As a lifelong car nut I haved run all sorts from bubblecar to 911 and currently have a collection of microcars in various states of repair and restoration. However, since my schooldays, when a chum used to arrive in a new pink Gilbern Invader estate, I have always wanted to own one.
So even though I have a Genie, I would still like to find an Invader estate as a restoration project.
Anybody know of one available??
Hope so.

Hi,

My name is Stuart and I just purchased a Gilbern Mk3 Invader (yes the one from Ebay  ), you will get to know me very well, I ask a lot of questions.... first one is which donor if any supplied the door glass ? I reckon the rear quarter is MGBGT but need a drivers window for starters !
The Gilbern is complete but not been on the road since 1983... and yes, is a non runner :)
I was after something special and always liked the idea of a Gilbern...I am going to the garage, I may be some time !

Where abouts in the the country do you hail from, as coffee is always available in my garage ...

Hi Grahame,

Thanks for the welcome and I should have said I am in Surrey, a few miles from Kingston.
I have read there may be some fairly local owners....

Hi. Im just about to start the recommissioning of 1971 Invader OHK 873K after 20 years laid up with its engine out, in a lock-up garage in London. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions along the way. Thanks to Brian for all your help finding the car.
