Re: This Forum - New Member Start Here
Hi, my names Duncan, from SW Scottyland, and I have just purchased a certain multi-coloured Mk3 from a gentleman at the top of this page. My plan is to develop the Mk3 into an Historic Rally/Occasion Hill Climb/Occasional show/Keep the missus happy tourer thingy, so it'll be like the colour scheme - multipurpose.
I will give you advance warning to be prepared for some outright daft questions as I start the development work.
Cheers
Duncan

Hi Duncan and welcome
Daft questions are our speciality, as they match some of us daft people...
Possibly a condition brought on by owning a Gilbern
Keep us up to date with ongoing work, and pictures are always enjoyed...

Welcome to the club Duncan,
Always good to ask questions, the answers we usually give are multiple choice though, as there's no correct answer for all things Gilbern

Thanks for the warm welcome.
Went to the Scottish Hillclimb Championship at Doune last weekend, there were only 2 cars in the class that the my Gilbern would run in: a sligtly trick MGB and a very trick & quick Vauxhall Firenza which broke its class record on two runs. the MGB running 8 sec a run slower however was nearer its posted bogie time and hence won.
Lots of ideas for the initial development so when I get them arranged in order on the to do list, its daft question time.
Cheers

New member near Lockerbie.
I've made contact with Duncan (DeeKay) and athough he does not work from my old office desk, I left it six years ago, it used to take me five minutes to walk from my kitchen table to my office desk. Duncan has an open invitation to pop along and see my MKIII (M30198) In bits and on a spit for chassis cleaning.
Willie.

Hi, I'm Aaron and am now the proud owner of PGL 39L a white MK3. I came across it sitting dismally at the rear of a property I had gone to with the purpose of purchasing two XJ6s for a project. Unfortunately the Jags were sold by the time I arrived but while talking to the seller I noticed this grimy matted leaf covered car and asked what in the name of heavens is that?! To my embarrassment I have to admit I had never heard of a MK3 Invader but when on his suggestion I started it up I wanted it! (It sounded really mean with the front manifold pipe blowing) To cut a long story short its home and my intention is to get it road legal and usable for the summer then rebuild the engine etc over the winter. The car seems to be in original condition apart from a new electric fan and horn and has only travelled 2000 miles in the last 20 years.
And so a labour of love begins............................

That seems to be the standard look for Gilberns these days....
Welcome Aaron, may the path of Gilbern ownership be a smooth one, it will certainly be an enlightening one.
This forum loves pictures

Hi, New member here.
Just purchased a Genie (No 149). I am planning to get it back on the road as it has been resting for a year or two since a head gasket failure. The plan then is to get it prepared for the Classic & Sports Car Club's Swinging Sixties Race Series so any sage advice concerning race prep would be very welcome.

Welcome Rustybin,
There are people on here who also race these, and there are quite a few people on here who will give all the advice and help you'll ever need
Good luck with the prep and get some pictures up in the relevent section.
Richard

Welcome to Gilbern ownership we'll look forward to hearing about your progress. As Richard says there are a number of racing Gilberns out there. I use my Genie in speed events and have developed the car over three years into something that is very competitive. Drop me a line if you think I can help

Without wishing to seem like a stalker, you wouldn't happen to be running the blue Genie with the HSA by any chance? In which case our paths have crossed as I was running a Radical with them up to a couple of seasons ago when it was temporarily retired pending some uprating.
I will definitely be in touch as I do also plan to keep the car eligible for hillclimbing as I do miss the social aspect of it (the circuit chaps can take it all a bit seriously!)
My first area of interest is a roll-cage so I need to read a few of the relevant threads here and in a Rarebit that I got with the car. Are you running with a cage. If so any info gratefully received.
Richard
