Thinking about this as a first excursion for the GT! Anyone been before, or going next year? Any tips/advice appreciated....

Promised myself to go for the last 3 but expect to make it this year. I know a number of people who go regularly and some camp infield, saying it saves the traffic jams getting in. It might also be that the locals ( radius 50mls ) raise the bed rates by 300% plus for the 24 hour and classic meets.

Anyone tempted ?

A friend of mine has been going for the last 10 years with his TR2, even drives it around the track.

According to him, you will need to camp as all the "beds" are fully booked for years in advance. It's great fun apparently.

He invites me to go with him every year, but as it tends to coincide with the wife's birthday, and being a total coward, and thinking that the announcement that I'm gong to Le Mans so wont be here for your birthday, probably wouldn't go down to well, I've not yet been.

May think about it a bit more when the Gilbern is finished and she can come too.

I think Le Mans is on every one "Bucket List", I've certainly wanted to go for the last ten years but have not made it yet.

Are we taking about..

1. A drive down in Gilberns/other Classic cars?
2. A Drive down in modern tin(or plastic)?
3. Being driven down by someone else?

I think the answer is what is important, the journey or the event.

If 1, your restoration must be coming on well Gerald or are we not talking about 2010 :) Not sure I'd trust my car on such a journey. 2. seems to be hassle without enjoyment so being lazy I was thinking about 3.

Local Coach companies in Worcestershire do such trips, quite reasonable if your willing to "rough-it" in the back of a coach for a few days.

btw the dates are 12/13th June or we could go to the classic event on 10/11th July?
Regards,

Derek
