weber carb

Postby pnr907 » Mon Aug 16, 2010 6:48 pm

Anyone know where I can get a new vacuum diaphragm/shaft for the 40 DFA auto-choke mechanism please? Online none of the service kits available have this item. I have the part number. The shaft appears to be riveted to the diaphragm and could probably be separated, the shaft then being fitted to a new diaphragm, although that's not ideal. The diaphragm is the worn component. Yes, I could convert to manual and may have to give in.

Hi Bill

Try these people, i bought this rebuild kit for my 40 DFAV, hope it's the same as the one you require, but if not, I'm sure a quick phone call to them will locate the part you require:

Best wishes and good luck.

Thanks to you chaps for your help. I have found the shaft/diaphragm at Carburettor Hospital in a remote part of Essex. www.carburettorhospital.co.uk. They have large stocks of parts for various carbs and Eric, the proprietor, says that the item that I was after is the last one of eight he bought with a load of other such kit and are the last we are ever likely to see. Other kit providers warn that their kit does not include this item. Also interesting to note the inadequacies of the old Haynes Ford Zodiac manual in connection with my carb, that is, in my copy. It doesn't mention nor show the mechanism for venting the float chamber. This has a small o-ring in it that I found was loose and disintegrating when I took it to bits. This, too, is in the kit I've just found but not in the kit I bought some weeks ago. All down to revisions I suppose: engine/carb or manual. Another useful website for this carb is http://marcos-restoration.net/downloads.html which is mainly about the Weber 38 DGAS but also covers our 40 DFA(V?). Beware the odd typo though.
