No problem, i will keep searching as i enjoy the detective work. This one i found from the Ace Motor Co. a while ago but i haven't seen it recorded anywhere else but on Ace's own site, which no longer shows it.

There must be some more pictures out there folks!!! WHY

We may even spot our own cars in them, or even buying them too, you never know!

Roseland Motors - had completely forgotten about them (only a dozen miles or so [to use EEC enforced metrics] from home)..

I didn't know they were ever Gilbern dealers - but as dealers, they always had a slightly esoteric nature.

Subsequently they were taken over, taken over, taken over etc. and now have disappeared

Distributors/dealers

Postby gilberninvader » Mon Nov 19, 2007 9:37 pm

I've just found a reference to the first Gilbern distributor, in a newspaper article of Oct 1962, which states that at that time they only had one agent , namely HATTERS in London.

Anyone know of the location of this garage, history, If its still there etc. i would appreciate any guidance. I am drawing a complete blank at the moment, searching on the internet, i have literally scoured 100's of 'Hat makers' and London was/is full of Hatters.... . :?

Gareth, you really need to get out more...............
I chased up the former A M Allen Ltd when I spent some time in Stockport a couple of years ago, I used to look at their showroom from the no 92 bus when I was (a lot) younger, and remember the GT's that used to be on show.
A chap known as Wilf Allen used to run the place and I met him one afternoon after a bit of detective work and had a pleasant chat at his house.
He said he had some photos of the cars in his showroom and would dig them out, I wrote to him to keep things moving, but later received a note from some solicitors saying that Wilf had sadly died.
The showroom is now a wine shop, or at least it was when I was there, but the garage at the back is still operational, the chaps who ran it were due to see Wilf for an MOT and later gave me his adress.
I am sure it was looking at the GT from the top deck of a 92 that started my interest, the bus also passed a lingerie shop further down the road, but that's another story altogether.
Pip pip!

Thanks for the useful bit of info Paul, maybe those photos might turn up on flog it etc. or indeed Wilf's relatives might read this one day and forward any Gilbern Memorabilia onto the club for the archives if they have still kept them.

It makes a lot of sense now why you went into Gilbern 'ladies vests' recently, i suppose it must be a secret passion of yours to design womens underwear, having had that early exposure to all those frilly lingerie clad lovelies....... i digress. :P

Maybe i can see you starting a new gilbern lingerie line requiring a lot of 'hands on' research. I think this has been suggested before but some members thought it a pants idea.

Glad your keeping abreast of my keen interest in the historic background to Gilbern's, as you know the early days are still a bit of a grey area( see my other post re completion of ist gilbern prototype in 1957!)
Happy Gilberning
Gareth :D

From another clearer picture found in a book on GT cars, the registrations are :
one on left hand side parked on slope, Mk 1 possibly, RJN 82G,( Emil Rosner's own personal demonstrator at Ace and also the road test car that appeared in Competition Car magazine of April 1972)
the one next to it is a Mk 2, BNX 825J,
then one i cannot read and finally a GT, KGX 1D

i dont have a scanner gareth, but ill try and photocopy them, i do tend to be wrapped up in running this carpet shop of mine so forgive me if its not straight away, that goes for everybody as well , if ive promised anything to anybody i will get around to it , its just around april time im preparing my end of year stuff for accountant, on the gilbern front the car should be home this week, ive lots of stuff to send off or photocopy for the historians, if i,d have been in employment i would have had it done by now.

this is my first year of self employment, and i dont have any staff to help , on a silly note i looked up gilbern on google and came up with a sad fact, theres a garage in the old factory village called i believe.. gilbern motors.. and guess what they specialise in.....................yes.
volkswagens........... how dissapointing ....
