2015 Summer Events

Postby EAU223C » Wed Dec 17, 2014 4:23 am

My wife and I will be coming to the UK next summer to experience Goodwood and are currently scheduled for September 2-15. We have some flexibility in our flights at this stage and are looking for any events or meetings to put on the list for up to a week or so before or after those dates.

It will have been 30 years since out last trip. At that time we were able to attend Motor 100 as well as meet several GOC members, in particular a number who, sadly, are no longer with us, Cyril Ward, John Classey and Barry Cooper.

Let me know if there are any events scheduled in that time, or if anyone just wants to meet somewhere for a pint. We will do our best to make it.

Hello Jim,

It's nothing special but the Hampshire Area group will be meeting on the evening of the 26th August at 7.30 at The Hurdles in Droxford, however the event you should try and get to is the Wiscombe Hill Climb on the 6th September, at which the Wiscombe Cup will be at stake. I only live 30 minutes from Goodwood, so if you want to pop round and browse the shelves of the new Gilbern Mega Store you would be most welcome.

Hello Jim,
The Oulton Park Gold Cup is on the weekend 29/30/31 August, check out the website. This is a major UK event for Historic car racing and is usually the biggest gathering of Gilberns here in the North West. Oulton Park is a very scenic track located approx 15 miles from the historic city of Chester and about 25 miles from the
Welsh Border where I live. I'm sure that we can sort out some 'cheap' accommodation if you are interested. Please PM me if you want any further info etc.

Best regards, Stuart.

The time is almost here and our schedule is largely fixed for our trip to England. Thanks for the suggestions Brian and Stuart. Unfortunately we won't be able to make it to Oulton Park or Wiscombe this time. Our schedule has us in London for about 4 days starting Sept 28. From there we are in Windsor and Woodstock for two days each and then we spend a day each in Cheltenham, Bath and New Forest. We have four days in Portsmouth for the Goodwood Revival. We wrap up with another four days in Lyndhurst September 16-20 before it is back to Heathrow and home in the US.

It has been a long time since we were in the UK. How easily can we expect to find wi-fi access as we travel around? That will make Skype and email possible, which wasn't an option 30 years ago.

I hope to be able to meet up with some of the Gilbern community while we are there. I can be reached through email at eau223c (at) earthlink (dot) net and Skype address jxhorton.

This trip has been a long time coming and I am looking forward to it.

cheers,

Hi Jim,

You will find that most areas of the South of England have good wifi connections, unfortunately it would appear that you are coming over during the period of time that we will be away, 11th September - 5th October.

However as you are staying in Portsmouth, you are only a 15 minute drive away from my house, so if you need any spares I can always arrange to leave them with one of my neighbours.

Let me know, do enjoy your trip

Regards

Brian - Spares
