Hi,
I'm currently a serial Scimitar owner/abuser with leanings towards Gilberns, and I have a couple of questions about automatics (I've seen a couple for sale in the past, though I take it they're rare).

Can anyone advise what axle ratios are found on auto cars, and if possible what the mph/1000 revs is?

I ask as the only thing I can find on the net is a carfolio page which gives a Gilbern (Genie I think) back axle as 3.54/1.
This is the same ratio as my current Scimitar which as an O/D does about 26.9 mph/1000 revs but in direct top ( i.e. as it would be if it were an auto) would only be 20.9, which would seem a bit under geared.
Any thoughts/ info would be welcome.

Sure someone will be along shortly who knows more about these cars.

My understanding is that the majority of the genies & invaders upto Mk2 used MGC back axles. Not sure what ratios were available in them but maybe a clue - I know that the MGB V8 people want MGC axles as they have a higher ratio.

Thanks for that, I see from my extensive library of anorak stuff that MGCs had 3.07, 3.31 and 3.7/1 ratios ( the first two coincidentally appearing on earlier Scimitars) and I think MGB V8s had 3.07/1.

I'll wait as you suggest and see what other information comes along.

The Later Genie and Invader 1/11 handbooks state that the manual versions had 3.34 Final Drive, although automatic is offered as an option, no mention is made of the ratio, however I would guess it would be 3.07.
