Re: jacking points on a mk2
Hi Craig
There's no jacking point as such i use a trolley jack when i need to work on mine and put a block of wood between frame and jack to protect paintwork. It would be best to check on the frame for any weakness before taking weight of car on say side members etc. .Rail damage not always obvious from outward appearance as it could have rusted on inner surface out of sight!!!
I always put axle stands underneath too for extra safety as i dont like to rely on jack alone.
cheers
Gareth

Without detracting from anything Gareth says.
The handbook clear states in Specification "Jacking points: Under the chassis any position"
On the Mk3, I jack under axle (rear) and cross-member (front), with axle stands under clear chassis tubes on the corners of the floor pan, ahead of and behind the wheels.
Echoing Gareths point, I would never recommend jacking under the fibreglass on the cill rails or anywhere the jack saddle cannot get a clear contact on the chassis.
