Hi Andy & welcome! I like your description of the Gilbern. I'd never seen a Genie or Invader
actually driving on the road (though I once saw one parked) though I'd seen a couple of GTs
so they're a rare sight indeed...

Good luck with your search for a Genie.

Regards, John

Hi Andy,

If you want to buy a Genie, do remember you only have a 1 in 197 chance, yes they are that rare, the first 40 were built on wire wheels - very desirable. Suggest you join the club as to see what we are all about, also I know of a Genie for sale at present, so why not drop me a line on briangent57@gmail.com.

Hi Everyone,

I've just joined the club and although I don't have a Gilbern I'm interested in learning more about them to see if we'd be a good match. I've always liked old cars with my first car being an MG Midget, which by all accounts is still on the road.

I'm originally from South Wales and lived around 25 miles from the factory so the Genie and Invaders were cars I grew up with, though they weren't something one saw every day even back then.

I'm now based in Fleet though I do venture back to Wales every now and again as one surprised Gilbern driver found out at the weekend. I decided to head up to Llantwit Fadre to see the old Gilbern works, which as you probably know is a tyre business these days, but it was nice to see the building is still standing.

The best part of the trip was on the way home when I joined the M4 at junction 34 heading towards Cardiff and spotted this little gem in the distance.

As I departed the M4 on the slip road I tooted my horn and received a lovely smile from the lady passenger as I gave her a thumbs up.

The couple certainly looked like they were enjoying themselves and I must say it made my day to see them and the car.

I'm hoping to get to a few events and plan to meet up with the Hampshire region later in the month and Brian Gent this weekend if we both make it down to Goodwood.

All the best,

Ian

Hello all,
my first post as a member returning to the fold!
We had an Invader Estate many years ago, and have now purchased an Invader 3 (FKD 540L) from another Forum member via Ebay. (It was also in Cars for sale on the Forum)
Looking forward to finishing off the work needed on the car and returning it to the road later this year, hopefully.

We bought the car having sold my MGCGT which we'd had for 15 years, but wasn't quite big enough to tour with us and the dog, so we're hoping the Invader will do that job nicely.
We also have a 1962 Daimler SP250 (Dart) for TWTD's (Tours Without The Dog !) which we restored from the ground up and has been on the road since 2010.

Prepare to be pestered with questions from us Newbie Invader 3 owners!

regards, John ( & Pat, & Louey-the-dog) in Middlesex

Hi Guys,

I think you have done very well with the purchase of FKD, Andy M spent a lot of time and money on the car. Obviously I am more than happy to help with any spares requirements you may require, however please note that we are just off on holiday for 2 weeks, we are then back for a couple of weeks before we go off again.

Welcome back

Hello everyone my name Will Hughes and I live near Narberth in Pembrokeshire, I have recently joined the club to learn more about Gilburn cars.

It's fair to say I'm a bit of a petrol head having restored quite a few vehicles over the years including cars motorcycles and even tractors.

I've always had a interest in Gilburns since first seeing a mk 111 in the early seventies close to where I live and have admired the cars at shows ever since .

So I have decided to bite the bullet and start looking for a mk 111, I would like to go for the best car I can afford although I would be prepared to tackle some restoration work.
Thanks for your time reading my introduction .

Best Regards to everyone Will

Hello, rejoined the club as I'm hoping to buy my third Gilbern ABE 380K, an Estate was my first, and OJA 526M, a Mk 3 was my second. Looking for a Mk 2 or Mk 3.

Hi.
My name Simeon Nicholas and I live in Cefn Hengoed, Ystrad Mynach, near Caerphilly. I have just bought a 1969 Gilbern Genie (Reg SKO 148H, chassis No G1168), which is need of a full restoration. I have owned Classis mini’s in the past (Cooper’s etc) so the Genie will be a steep learning curve for me but I love the looks, engineering and design of this car. Many spares required so the forum and spares backup of the club and its members will be greatly appreciated.
Regards.
Simeon.

Hello everyone,

I am Dan, I am new to this forum and have just requested membership to the club as well.

I have taken on the task of getting my wife's Grandfathers car back on the road. I believe the car is known to this forum as i think an old picture of it is in the Gilbern's of Canada section as my wife's grandfather exported the car to Vancouver when he emigrated. My wife arranged importing the car back to the UK and it arrived last week.

I know very little about the car as i do not have any paperwork with it, But i believe it is a mk2 invader, chassis number IN1112, not certain of the exact year, 1971?

The car is in very good condition and Reg has looked after it very well. Unfortunately it has not been touched for at least 18 years due to poor health but has been garaged.

I am currently in the process of seeing if the engine will turn freely, also the wiring in the drivers footwell seems to be in mid progress of repair, including the ignition barrel.

I have always tried to repair my cars myself but have never taken on a project like this before (i realise this is nothing in comparison to some of the barn find repairs people get up to). It seemed a great opportunity to get into a classic car but also keep a car in the family.

I am sure i will be very reliant on the invaluable information in these forums, and hope to meet some of you when i get it out on the road.

I have attached some pictures below.

Hi Dan,

It looks like you have a real keeper there, and with it being a car that's been in the family and travelled the world, one that will be a talking point for many years to come.

It looks very similar to Mr. McArdles, so I'm sure he'll be able along shortly to tell you all about it.

Unless it's a GT or a MK3, I'm not very good at working out the difference between a Genie and a Mk1 or Mk2 Invader, hence my lack of input. I just wish the inside of my car looked as good as yours.

I wish you all the best.

FYI - Next year's National Day is a bit of a special anniversary, so make sure it's ready in time.
All the best,

Ian

Many thanks Ian.

I will try my best for next year, but i am sure there are going to be a few unexpected hiccups along the way as I start working, fingers crossed.

Dan
