The price of parts

Postby R_D_Olivaw » Sun Apr 02, 2017 4:59 pm

Does anyone track part prices to keep abreast of the going rates?

I was tempted by a new/old stock Triumph Stag door handle that came up on ebay last week that sold for £104. Is that a good price?

Are there any particular parts that are hard to find for an Invader Mk3?

Thanks in advance,

RDO
All the best,

Ian

Hi RDO, as these are not normally available, I have not seen any N.O.S for sale for years and re-manufacture is unlikely at present, then the price is what it is. I tried more than once to get some made when I did new spares but it would involve joining with the Stag owners Club to get some quantity. They are simply not interested as 'it does not put a car off the road', it also prevents one from being concours but there you go!
If we did go ahead with production I would say that that would probably have been the price but they would now be made of brass.
FYI there are MK1 & MK2 types of door handles, Invader MK2's use the MK1 type which I believe actually came from the Triumph Spitfire, I am not sure if Invader MK3's used type 1 or2 the difference is inside the door. I remember that Spitfires had external handles but I was told this by the Stag OC s I'm not sure, they also said that Gilbern were using this handle 6 or 8 months before Stags and all stags are MK2 type, again I have only their word for it.
The later type can be fitted to an Invader but it is a fiddly job, I have done it.
Note I missed this question until to-day.

FYI, I have Googled Triumph Stag Door handles and found a few used ones, James Paddock Ltd. is advertising a L/H handle but has the gaskets and plastic lever. Wins International also claims to have some used handles. Someone on ebay has a complete Stag door with handle for £80, worth buying to remove the handle and sell on?

Caveat emptor!
Unless they are new old stock I would not venture anything significant.
Looking this morning on ebay there's a pair of handle 'shells' for £25 and nr side complete for £20.
On all these the chrome looks poor and not worth it unless you have none.

Regards Gavin's comments. The Stag handles on the Mk3 are Stag only and fit both Mk1&2 Stags. Not seen anything like them on a Spitfire although late models were fitted with a flush handles it is more like (but different) to that fitted to the Marina.
The Marina handles were fitted to some of the very last (Gilbern) Mk3s

I have a pair of Stag door handles that came off my Mk3, if anyone is interested. They are not perfect, obviously being 44 years old. They were removed in the 80's.

Thanks for still the replies. Luckily I am not currently in need of one, but things do break and I was just trying to future proof the car. Parts never seem to be available when you need them.
All the best,

Ian
