Aluminium radiator

Postby Jimbern » Fri Oct 13, 2017 8:05 pm

Hi , I need a new rad for my Invader estate . I rather fancy an uprated aluminium one . Can somebody tell me ,a , what is the rad from , b , where is the best place to get it ?
I suspect this is not the correct forum to ask this but I am continually told on the 3litre technical forum that I have not got the required permissions to join in !

Firstly I would email Paul Clarke with your log-in problems, address in front of Rarebit.
Secondly, radiators, if your car still has the original it was most likely from a Transit. Over the years I have spoken to a number of replacement radiator suppliers about Gilbern replacements but did not follow it through as too many wanted different versions, i.e. some wanted faithful copies others wanted modified ones with larger cores and a raised bottom tank for more ground clearance. Depending where you are in the country Northern Radiators still send me through info on their latest specs and seem to produce a good product, there is a company just to the north of Bristol (I would have to look that one up) and quite a few more that I don't know of.

Admin: The Mk3 radiator comes from a Transit. The Estate is same as Mk2.

Hi Gavin , Thank you for your reply . I have contactacted Paul 5 times via the forum and have not had a reply so I assumed that part of the forum was dead .
I would very much appreciate it if you could look up the company north of Bristol as that is not far from home and I could take them my rad as a pattern.
I will look up Northern rads. Thanks again for your help , Jim.

Gavin , I have done a bit of digging and come up with Arrow rads of Avonmouth , if this the same company you were thinking of I might have saved you a job ! Cheers , Jim.

Hi Jim, Arrow rads of Avonmouth is one name that I have heard good reports from but have no personal knowledge, the other was in Yate/Chipping Sodbury area. Again no personal dealings with them.

I went through months of head-scratching over whether to get a new aluminium rad, getting quotes on custom designs and sizes, checking for retro-fit rads etc.
In the end I just had my original rad re-cored (3-row core), and had electric fan mounts welded on along with a boss for a thermostat sender in the bottom. Works a treat. Think the company was Aaron Radiator co.
