Weird tacho!

Postby Cullen » Wed Feb 14, 2024 4:27 pm

For several years now the tacho in my Mk2 Invader (Cologne 2.8 engine)has never gone beyond 1k. Today I started the car for the first time since October and let the engine idle, but occasionally blipping the throttle up to 3k + and the tacho seemed to work perfectly. Later I took the car out for a run but the tacho had reverted to its 1k limit! The wires and connection all seem OK. Any suggestions?

Need more info really. Do you have electronic ignition or an ECU, or is it a standard distributor and coil set up? Is it a Smiths tachometer and if so is it an RVC or RVI (there is a code on the dial). Do you know where the tachometer gets its signal from? Cheers, Ian

Tachos get impacted by electronic ignition. The 2.8 has an electronic coil pack iirc.
The Invader will be RVI due to age. You can get a conversion kit from Spiyda to update the tacho. or they will do it as well I think. Or the 'gaugeshop.com'
