hi there can anyone tell me if the chassis numbers on mk1/2/estste or in exact sequence with the models obviously mk 1 is the first 78 cars 1001-1079 fairly easy to follow but then what happens , if there was 212 mk 2 saloons was that then 1080-1292 or were there eststes mixed in with those numbers , or did estates follow 1292 my car is 1283 so does that make my car the 9th last mk 2 to be produced {1292-9) gives 1283 if you see what i mean . also in the club mag numbers are given as "about" 212 cars were there extra or less made?

Re: chassis numbers in sequence
They do run in sequence, well sort of, with Estates mixed in with the others
Estates run from IN1086 to IN1394 but not consecutively..
As to the accuracy of the numbers of cars built, I can't speak for the other models but for the Estate, it appears that no one really knows... It was always said that the were just 68 made, in fact my own car carries a plaque stating it is 67th of 68 made, and its chassis number is the penultimate Estate number, but I now have confirmed records for 106 cars, at least 2 of which were originally saloons and were rebodied to Estates.

As to where abouts you car is in the list, a very quick scan of my records shows your car as being about the 141st Mk11 built, but no doubt Gareth will be along to give you more details as he is the MK11 Historian and will have more info to hand than I have.

Re-bodied saloons!
That would require a lot of rear chassis mod. (unlike the publicity brochure that actually used a saloon chassis) I wonder if they ended up normal Estates or hybrids.

Re: chassis numbers in sequence
One was a 1968 Genie converted to an Estate, although apparently not an using an actual Mk11 Bodyshell but very very similar, quite well known as it appeared in "The Great Cars" book.
The other is just listed as a "Rebodied Saloon", but as yet I have no pictures.
Last heard of in South Wales in the late 90's, so if anyone knows the whereabouts of SNH 60K or has any pictures or details that they would share, please let me know.

Re: chassis numbers in sequence
Craig..
As the orginal dashboard in my car was split and nearly all the guages broken, I have had to make a new dash from scratch and therefore have altered the layout slightly ..
I have a vacuum guage where the clock would be and the clock lives beside the steering column, I also prefer a Volts guage in place as an Ammeter, as having all the current drawn by the car running through the back of the dash to the guage and back, really could be a disaster waiting to happen.
I have not fitted ashtrays, and the veneer is now a slightly lighter Burr Eucalyptus as I was able to get it in a large book cut sheet.
All the minor guages are matched Smiths instruments mostly NOS sourced from e-bay and autojumbles over a 10 month period, and the Tach went to Wales to be refurbished and converted to RVC from the standard RVI to allow it to work with an electronic ignition.

There are more pictures on the web, just follow the link below.

PS .. Excuse the dust, I keep it covered but it gets in everywhere

This is where the Estate started and a well known story. It was converted by the own/member and shown to the factory, who like it so much, they made their own - to coin a phrase!

fyi: The Genie Estate : chassis no G1058 : Converted by the owner pre-Invader estates. He drove to the factory to show the conversion & then Invader estates seem to have been built? The car in later life, was re-converted using an Invader Mk2 estate shell & remains in that state. It is still alive.....just. Stored in many parts, outside & last seen about 18months ago.
