as my uncle frank always said" it never rains in the tap room"

Well Craig......The amount you use her is up to you!
I do at least 3 car shows in the year, most are 200+ miles away.
Then I do the Border Rievers Run, that's another 2 day event that's 300+ miles away.
I'm doing National Day this year as an extra because it's being held near my old stomping ground
Then there's the regular blast around the local villages when tinkering with her to see how it's helped....or not!
Although not so much in recent years there's the RAF Marham Track day to really test her......
I could go on!
What you need is to get your confidence in her reliability so you know you can go further afield and get back in one piece.
Why not book yourself onto the Border Rievers in Heartbeat Country this year. Not too far across the country for you too travel and if you lift your bonnet, you will get lots of guys peering in and sorting your problems, even ones you didn't know you had!
Get out there and use her!

Re: should i have a gilbern
That doesn't sound that bad for a classic 2nd motor.
I only use my classics when it's isn't raining, so sunny weekends, or occasionally for a lunch during the week.
Sometime we will take it out if it's nice and we are off across the moors or along the coast for a bit of business or shopping.
There will be 4 or 5 shows during the year, and also a couple of runs...
Very rarely will I get any where near my 3000 mile insurance limit.
My classic, be it the Gilbern or the MG previous or whatever is to come in the future, is not my everyday car, it is my "Big Boy Toy", it gets looked after and taken out to play with when it is nice and sunny and warm.
When it's cold or wet, or I need to cover a lot of miles, then the leather seats, air conditioned, cruise controlled comfort of the Honda does for that.
I know a lot of people use them as daily drivers, but I think of a classic like me ... done the hard work in my younger days, now I'm a bit older, time to enjoy life at a slightly slower and relaxed pace, so a bit more comfort, and to watch others run around frantically, so I dont go out in the wet and cold, and I like to sit in the warm, same as my old car

Re: should i have a gilbern
Hi Craig,I think you should ditch your other vehicle and use your Gilbern as everyday transport. This is what i do with mine.A 1971 Invader Estate I don`t care how big my "carbon foot print is" !!!!!Plus she tax free so i don`t pay those thieving b***** in the government.
I really enjoy driving a car that no one knows what it is and gets a look where ever she goes.
These cars are meant for driving so thats what you should do.
Cheers

Craig
I use my Gilbern as my everyday car - for a variety of reasons. I can vouch for reliability once you get them sorted. I have done over 16,000 miles since last National Day, and nearly 50,000 in the past 3 years. Peter Best scapped their 3,000 mile limit last year and I se no reason not to take advantage of it.
