Invader Estate Windscreen from 1970s in Cellar

Postby ferdinand » Sun Sep 27, 2009 6:33 pm

We're house clearing after dad's death, and I think there's an original Gilbern Invader Estate windscreen still there from the 1970s.

The background is that our car was in Wales for repair, and we collected it as - I think - they were going through (not sure which "going through" it was if they had more than one :-). They said to take any spares he wanted, so he limited himself to a spare screen.

The car was a Mustard Yellow G-reg, and came complete with the doors to be put on. I remember being taken to school in it in the mid-late 1970s.

Can anyone do anything with this, or are they 10 a penny?

I am near Mansfield.

Hi Ferdinand and welcome ..

I dont suppose you can remember any further details of your father's estate can you???

I am the Estate Historian and am always looking for details of the cars, or any pictures or documentation about them.

I would also love your spare windscreen, but living down here in Plymouth is just a bit far away for collection, and wrapping for posting would not be that easy but I'm sure you will find another taker a bit closer to you.

I should come up with some more information as we clear things out, including the numberplate. There's a G keyring, and a new decal somewhere.

Not sure about photos.

What is a screen worth roughly?

Grahame/Ferdinand,

I'm only 80 miles away from Mansfield so if you do agree a price perhaps I could meet halfway and hold it for you Grahame?
Regards,

That would suit me superbly if OK.

And I just found a steering wheel while clearing a room today - 3 spoke steel and leather with the 3 different sized holes drilled in the spokes. There is not much else.

(Have 2 and a half NSU RO80s too, but that is a different forum :-) )

A bit more gen.

Originally deep Yellow.
Early 1970s - prob 1972-3.
It was back at the manufacturer to have a "rear wheel rubbing on arch going round corners" problem corrected when they went bust, and we took a holiday there to rescue it and eventually got it back - at which point we were given a free run of the spares.
4+2 overdrive.
Disposed of to a dealer in Mansfield in part exchange for an NSU Ro80 in perhaps 1976.
Fog lights with silly covers where you had to stop to take them off !

Will post plate when we find a picture.

Spares so far:

screen
steering wheel
poss. window winder mechanism
still looking

the estate I am re-building at the moment has a front screen that is full of carcks, and the steering wheel is gash too, so if there are any bits looking for a good home, perhaps I could add my name to the list.
approx. 3 inches of standing water inside the car has not helped matters either, so I'd be pleased to hear from anyone with some interior bits too.

I've just found the file relating to the car, while clearing out papers. There are dozens of letters.

The reg is GVO 682 K, and I'll start another thread and post a couple of interesting pieces.

It is fascinating - dad was unhappy with the quality of the car, and raised about 45 items (I think he was kitchen-sinking it), and the dispute ended up with RAC inspections and was moving to the High Court.
