The Estates Gazette
An independent organ for the Gilbern Estate Owner
Issue no. 1 October 2010
Bearing in mind that the Gilbern Estate is arguably the rarest, best looking and most desirable of the Welsh classics, it seems a shame that it is invariably overlooked and ignored due to the limited numbers about.
Estimates of numbers made have varied over the years, but something over 100 cars is widely accepted as being correct, although how many are actually in circulation is a moot point.
Should the EG reach issue no.2, the object will be to make contact with other estate owners, both in and outside of the Gilbern Owners Club, for the free exchange of information and the promotion and preservation of the cars still around, both in this country and abroad.
Due to the rarity of some parts, such as gas struts for the rear door, stocks are not held by the GOC, but investigations have identified a ready supply, speak to Matt at Struts Direct, http://www.strutsdirect.co.uk by now he knows all about Gilbern Estates.
Pedal rubbers are another rarity, and after my car failed an MOT (!) on such items, research identified that these come from Austin 1800 / Maxi and a quick e-mail to the Landcrab Club http://www.landcrab.net/ resulted in the early arrival of a suitable pair, now fitted.
The turnout of GT’s at a recent GOC National Day shows what can be done by a little effort, where in this case the GT Historian focused on encouraging GT owners specifically to attend, the numbers of estates by comparison has usually been rather low.
A ready interchange would hopefully result in more estate owners attending shows, or meeting elsewhere, whether linked to the GOC or otherwise, where less fortunate classic owners can admire what is one of the finest specialist sports estates made.
Available spares ~ Estate fuel tank, anyone interested before it is passed to the club?

Do I detect a hint of bias?

To be totally honest and fair, and I wish I had thought of it..
The Gazette has been written by Paul Yates, I'm just his publisher ...
The idea is to spread Estate info and hard to find spare parts and their possible alternatives between the Estate community

Dear Grahame,
I think you are being mis-led, you are talking about Gilbern Estate cars, Paul Yates is refering to his 300 acre estate in Hertfordshire!
Yours in jest Brian.

Brian
I know, but he's promised that if I do all his publishing work for him, me and the family can set our cardboard box up in the corner of the lower field for Christmas..
We are hoping we may be able to forage for some mushrooms to go with our festive acorn nut roast if the master dont whip us too hard ..
I know my place ...
