Gilbern Invader MK3 Cigar lighter
My lighter is faulty and blows the fuse when used. Can any one help me in finding the name of the correct cigar lighter for this car in an attempt to get a replacement.

Hi ianto250, I don't know the answer, but I'm pretty sure it's just your common garden variety cigar lighter. I think they call them accessory points now or something like that. They are available from all good accessory shops and Halfords
Also I think they're listed in the CBS catologue.
But, before you buy a new one, have you checked yours out? If it's blowing fuses it must still be working. Have you got the correct fuse in? has the unit been thoroughly cleaned? I'd be trying to find the fault first, incase a new one just starts a fire.
Oh and welcome to the Gilblog.

Richard ,Thanks for the welcome from Australia. I cleaned the element took it off and applied 12v direct from the battery and it glowed red no problem. The socket works with a tom tom plug..However when I push the lighter in fuses blow from 10 amp to 30 amp I managed to source a spare from http://www.classiccapsule.com/gilbern-d ... -314-p.asp. after much googling around I will get an auto electrician to fit it as I do not want a fire.Lyn

Re: Gilbern Invader MK3 Cigar lighter
the cigar lighter fitted to my invader is a casco product very common in the 60-70s as fitted by jaguar bmc and many others. The problem you are having is the plug on your accesory is shorting out the live part on your socket to earth.Look inside your socket and you will see the live terminal at the base protrudes up each side , turn your plug so that the earth pins on each side do not make contact with the live teminal. I have had similar problems with accesory plugs . coiln.

Dear c3pb
Just repaired the original following your advice. A slight rotation of the element grips aligned them with gaps in the casing thus preventing the shorting .Sorted!! and Thankyou
ps I dont smoke just like things to work!!
