Curborough sprint

Postby Tree man » Sun Oct 09, 2011 8:28 pm

The final event of the year saw me at Curborough sprint along with Mike Smailes in his Genie. Leaving the house at 6.30am in the pouring rain didn't bode well for the days racing but it had cleared by the time I reached Curborough and held off all day, even managing a bit of sunshine at lunchtime. In the class with me and Mike was a TVR Vixen, Mini Cooper and a RS2000 Mk1 Escort. Competition was very close all day with the final times being seperated by less than a couple of seconds - all apart from Mike who had a recurring problem with debris from the petrol tanks clogging the fuel system. Mike managed a clean run on the last attempt but needed two filters and four runs by the time we he had tracked down problem, and he had to drive the car home :( The TVR romped home as usual and I was trailing the RS2000 by half a second for third but I was beaten into fourth place by the Mini Cooper by a 100th of a second. I have had many a scrap with the Cooper and we share the honours overall. Already planning for next year with hopfully more speed and talent.

Hi Tree Man

Congrats on a good weekend and for the whole year, and I wish you all the best for next year.

I have always enjoyed your videos and have collected them all, and often watch them on a wet miserable day as a sort of pick me up ..

Again congrats and I look forward to seeing the new video's

Despite the problem with fuel starvation during the sprint I managed to get home without any problems. Before I use the car in competition again I now need to remove and clean (possibly replace) the petrol tanks and, of course, clean the fuel pump and carb. Notwithstanding the problems I thoroughly enjoyed the day and I really appreciated all the help given by my fellow competitors.
