Engine Colours?

Postby Waylison » Tue Mar 04, 2008 12:09 pm

I was planning to paint my engine block and heads ford blue as this seemed to be the colour seen in most photos, but on stripping my engine down, under the steel plate on the rear of the block after removing the bellhousing, the block was clearly originally red. Guess i'll go with red then. Yellow car, red engine, sound good????? 8)

Cheers,
Wayne.

Wayne,

That reminds me ... you mentioned earlier that someone mistook your Gilbern for an Imp or something. One of the sprinting Davrians is also bright yellow with no bumpers and goes like stink ..

With a pair of WWII NHS Bottletop glasses or at terminal velocity the mistake could be made ?? I'll try and get a photo for you ...

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris.

Just completing my engine rebuild. Getting together some pics to post later as a warning to others. Main one is of fibre timing wheel with a crack in it! I'm soooooo glad I decided it was time to pull it apart and look see :D Also the amount of muck that's come out of the block from flushing, I think Ford left ALL the sand in from casting it :? It was atleast an inch deep at the bottom of the cylinder liners. I noticed on TVR site that they say don't go for the alloy timing gear cos it'll chew up and just fill you sump with swaff. Trouble is the all steel gears are supposed to be soooo loud. Maybe someone on here has an idea of what's best?

Cheers
Wayne.

Wayne,

I'd ask John Wade at JW Developments or Ric Wood on that one ......

Chris,

I see Burton's only supply the steel camshaft gear, don't mention the alloy ones at all. Guess that says something.

I'm going to have to update my signature because I'm going back to 38 degas carb and manifold now, petrol prices have forced the issue, I can't sustain 200 miles on £50  I can always pop triples back on for track days etc.

Wayne.
