Chassis repairs!!!

Postby paul davies » Mon Aug 24, 2015 11:14 am

Hi everyone.

Have recently joined the club, having bought a Genie (Reg no: ABW 150H, Chassis no: G1182). I have had contact with Fred Harrison and Brian Gent, who are very helpful and friendly people. The car was in reasonable condition, and had last been mot'd only around 18 months ago.

I have started stripping it down for some restoration and have come across some well hidden corrosion!. The worst being to the side ladder section of the chassis (behind the sills). This looks like I would have to cut away a lot of the floor etc to replace the required sections, so any tips would be welcome.

I also cannot gain access to the 3ltr forum, any help with this would also be appreciated. This will probably be the first of many requests for help and information, so hope you are a patient lot :-)

Cheers
Paul Davies

Hello Paul, and a warm welcome to the Club from the Secretary. Here's wishing you success with the project! Words and pictures on your progress would be appreciated for Rarebit!

An apology is due for your being unable to access the Members' pages. There's a problem behind the scenes that we are hoping to resolve very soon. All good wishes, Victor Lobb

Hi Paul,
Chassis repairs on a Genie?........I recommend you spend £10 on the GOC DVD available from the regalia section. It has extensive coverage / pictures / diagrams all written by the GOC chassis guru Phil Ivimey.
Well worth a read before you get the hacksaw out?

Phil is also worth a call ( number in Rarebit) if you want help too, as the Genie has different issues from the later Invaders. But it's all fixable.
Regards Julian

Hi Paul
Good luck with your restoration work I have a invader mk3 that had the same problem. The previous owner tried replacing them by cutting out the floor and the sills. Unfortunately they didnt do a good job of it and the more I looked the worse it got. At the moment I have the car in boxes and the shell behind the garden shed. The chassis however is in the garage looking very sorry for itself leaning against the wall but right alongside it is a 3/4 finished stainless steel one. I would recommend the dvd some helpful information on it. Once again good luck
