New member - new car

Postby roger » Wed Nov 18, 2015 5:42 pm

Hi - I recently joined the club on the expectation of buying a Gilbern, which I'm pleased to say, I have now done. Its a 1971 Mark II Invader in white, reg CPP 303K. Does anyone know this car?

Hi Roger,

Welcome to the world of Gilbern ownership, if you want to find out the history of your car, I suggest you contact Gavin McArdle the clubs MK.1/11 Invader Historian. He is on gavin.mcardle@gilbernoc.co.uk, just quote your membership number and chassis number and he should be able to help you.

For any new spares, please contact me on briangent57@gmail.com.

Good luck

Thanks for the information Brian. I'll contact Gavin as you suggest.

Regarding spares, I will need a new temperature gauge and possibly a new fuel gauge. The former is dead and the latter sticks. Am I right in thinking that these are early MBG items?

Regards

Hi Roger,

We do have some re-conditioned gauges in stock, as to what they are originally from, I am not sure, I would run that by Gavin when you speak to him, as he knows all about Mk.11's having owned one for many years.

Well, I've completed my first 200 miles in the Invader and I'm impressed with its comfort and handling. Needless to say, there are a few niggles - non-working windscreen washers, poor heater, rear lights needing rewiring, carb/throttle cable need attention. Overall though its a great car and with a little bit of work will be first class.

One question - how do I get to the spare wheel as the carpet seems to be glued to the floor of the boot........

If you ever do get to the spare wheel, may I suggest you wear a suitable
truss to avoid a hernia when you're trying to remove it, especially if the tyre
is on the large side...

Thanks for the helpful suggestion John. I donned my truss and found that the centre of the floor lifted to show the spare wheel underneath. However, I found the wheel to be quite light, perhaps because it had no air in it. :)
