Got One!!

Postby StewB » Sun Feb 07, 2016 11:22 pm

Hello all, as the title suggests finally managed to track down a suitable Mk3 Invader which I've collected today from up north (I'm midlands based).

KDN 480L in Electric blue with a grey/black interior & a manual gearbox.

Car is fairly straight & unmolested but has been standing (indoors) since 2003 so requires recommissioning & no doubt some surprise repairs to boot! Cosmetically challenged but nothing unexpected for a 44 year old plastic car!

Presently doesn't run (battery & fuel which smells like paintbrush cleaner) but should be easy enough to sort that out.

Now I've managed to find one I'll be joining the club - I do have a head start as the previous owner has given me every copy of rarebit between it's start & 2006!

See how it goes when I start poking around properly, chassis looks ok from what I can see but I want to check the rear crossbeam.

Fingers crossed it's not too bad!

Stew.

Hi Stew,

Well done, it all comes he who waits! Once you have joined the club I will be expecting some phone calls over some spares. Hopefully you can get it up and running and attend this years National Rally in Swansea (2/3rd July).

Regards

Thanks all - I seem to have the same login issues for the forum getting the 'you do not have sufficient access to view this forum' etc.

Anyway - had a small spark of life out of the car today.

I've swapped all of the ignition out for new & upgraded to contact less electronic ignition.

Managed to get a brief glimmer of life by tipping a bit of fuel down the carb.

Presently the carb is off awaiting some cleaning out as it looks like half of the Sahara is in the float bowl! The fuel pump isn't on the first flush of Youth either so may need replacement...

Next on the list will be cleaning of fuel tanks & replacing any rubber hoses.

The joy of old cars which have been left standing....

Hi Stew,

I have new mechanical fuel pumps in stock, as well as the latest spec. rubber balance pipe hose that connects the twin tanks.

Some pictures from the previous owner, car looks the same today but will hopefully be transformed by the addition of some period alloy wheels!
